for about a minute, than he slowly jumped up to the top level, and looked at me some more, like he understood what i did. Than he goes onto the top of the cage, and just kept looking at me, like for once in his life he gave me some respsect. In that moment I knew i was doing the right thing. 30 seconds later, he gives me a nice "chirp" looks me in the eyes and flys off.
He most likely froze to death or got eaten by a falcon but fuck, he got what he wanted for 2 years finally and i bet he enjoyed that day more than his whole life.

OP, I had parakeets. They are small and get sick and die around 10-15 years. Mine would mimic sounds, and you could tell they had feelings by the way their eyes would dilate when I put my hand for them to get on or hanged millet or wet lettuce for them to pick apart. The female would go looking at any dark spots, seeing if it was a hole she could nest in. It's not a good thing they are mass famed and literally thrown away when not sold, I'd ban the farming of them as pets, but in a good home they can live a happy life

Parakeets like this one are pretty cool, but the smaller the bird, the more often they shit. Strategically placed paper plates are good. Don't keep them near where you cook (if you cook)...they're real sensitive to Teflon fumes and whatnot.
