Cowboy Bebop is just a bunch of movie references and cliches thrown together, and brings nothing new to the table. It's style over substance, like Tarantino movies. Cowboy Bebop was a masterpiece of the Sunrise studios, and it is good.
It is the best out of the 90s but it has opponents in other studio creations like Aeon Flux and Reign (both from the same author)
It depends: Sunrise created Zegapain which is another less known masterpiece which you easily dismiss as a mecha whilst it is way more philosophical and mature like CB.
CB has been the creation of another time when studios had to be paid big bucks and train great artists! CB has been the peak as it merged first CGI models, classic and virtual drawings.
But the same year the Ghost in the shell movie came out. That alone destroys any chances of a series, so it depends. The plot of GITS is great, not linear but good.
You can argue that Deathnote has been a bigger success. Not many anime with adult or mature content are popular in comparison with bullshit people on the net love to the point of annihilating their futile existence becoming the scum they always have been. If you count the consequences of every anime in the worst task of taking useless people away from the street and my eyes, than even Spongebob is a better anime than CB. I hate even the idiotic semantics of the word anime which stands for animation but stupid people only use related to Jap "animes" cause that's the commercial name and they are dumb enough to kill themselves like the breathstealers they are. We need a purge. That's what I am saying. Savage pure purge. Then we could enjoy the old and the new. I mean, artists are not that dumb to get purged.

As a Yoko Kanno nerd I must say it's not even her best soundtrack. These are better, at least as standalone albums:
- 23 Ji No Ongaku (OST from a radio drama)
- Arjuna
- GITS:SAC (all 3 albums)
I have 30-40 YK albums and many are great, just not the (dozens of?) J-pop albums with Maaya Sakamoto which make me puke for some reason and I always delete them immediately or literally throw them in the trash.

I think so, I have the 3-CD box set and "Cowboy Blue" all of which I listen to occasionally. I vastly prefer the 3 I cited. Not mediocre IMO, and certainly more original in terms of style and fusion of styles, which is the most interesting aspect of YK's music and not featured prominently in the Cowboy Bepop OST. That's why I think people should listen to these other albums, otherwise you're missing out on some really unique stuff (more unique than the Cowboy Bepop OST).

I started SAC and kind of disappointed tbh. I mean it's average anime pace, and I guess I was hoping for something more spaced out, but you can't make something as meditative as the films when you try to cram self-contained stories in 20min eps.
Cowboy bebop was 24 episodes of filler and like 3 episodes of plot.
It was good filler, but filler nonetheless.
