You can try making traps for them where you leave something sweet and preferably stick at the bottom of a bottle and put a funnel on top (make sure the bottom of the funnel is narrow and doesn't touch the sides) to curb their numbers. Don't bother with any electrical zappers; they're not particularly attracted by visible or UV light.
Obviously best way to get rid of them is to not leave food exposed.

We leave small plastic cups out with apple Cider Vinegar in them and a slice of an apple. On top, is a usually a form of plastic wrap with a small whole in it, and once a lot of them have crawled inside with wrap aluminum foil on the top so they die.
