the RX-8's price dropped significantly in the past few years, you can get one for 3000-4000€, which is in the "affordable to mere mortals" price range

>>703455422
I felt like you. I'd always wanted a 911, as it was the only freally practical supercar, but they were always too small small inside for my 6' 4" frame. A few years ago they revised the interior package so I could fit and last year I had the chance to drive one; and, to my disappointment, my hero had feet of clay. The road noise and the roar and boom from the rear were wearing to the point that I thought "I wouldn't pay nearly £100k for this". I actually found a DB9 a more pleasant car to drive.

Nice. I only got to drive the DB9, although I always thought the Vantage is the nicest-looking aand best-proportioned of the current Astons. The others always seem too low and, sort of, stretched.
>>703460333
yeah i watched it yesterday... main reason it's on my mind!

>>703455422
I always wanted a Turbo too, but you're way better off with normally aspirated and with a real transmission. Pretty sure turbos all come with pussy autoboxes these days.
Get a slightly used one - anything manual except a 996. Avoid tiptronic or pdk like the fucking plague.
>>703460620
997.2 was the last one to have manual. But the PDK makes sense in the 991 turbo IMHO.

>>703461152
If you look at the tech that the DB11 has, you'll have an idea what the Vantage replacement will have, as that's on the new Aston platform. A lot will depend on what technology sharing Aston can agree, as they can't afford to develop all their own bits and they are not part of a larger group like Ferrari, Porsche, Bentley or Bugatti
>>703462067

>>703459813
>>703463011
Agreed, but unfortunately, if you look at the sales figures and the lack of profits over the years, not enough customers agree with the likes of you and I. Too many think, "but I can get keyless entry, non-Garmin plumbed-in satnav and a decent HMI on my Fiesta, why can't I get the same on my £100k+ Aston?" and are then voting with their feet. Plus, unless you know the models well and can spot the subtle differences, they all look very similar to each other and there's rarely a compelling reason to spend £££'s on trading in for the latest model. All a result of small budgets and the costs of new tech and keeping up with legislation.
I've always wanted a Porsche.

Had the mk2 for a couple of years, sold it 'cause I'm itchy but I did regret getting rid of it. Fantastic machine. Kinda hard to put a good stereo in it. Definitely pick up a mk 2 if you liked the mk 1. Bulletproof. I kinda want to to pick up a used ND - they look a little meaner.

Plus they have a horrible reputation for unreliability, which is not fully deserved. They do have a patchy QC history though, and if you get a bad one it can be a money pit. Just go to the Pistonheads forums and have a browse.
I still say if I win the lottery it would be a car I'd treat myself to. Probably a DB11, though. Daimler electrical architecture is bound to help.
>>703462878
Get a Porsche. Any Porsche (with a stick).
I'm getting one next spring/summer. Going to Japan to search for the right one.
>>703463650
Oohh I also had an AW11 for a while - great car even though it was the worst purchase I ever made. many many things wrong with it, but it was very cheap... to begin with.
Good stereo I can live without, though i notice the MK2 has space for 6.5" components which will be an upgrade to the coaxials in my mk1, and i imagine it's a little less of a rattle box too.
I too hanker after a ND, so nice of mazda to stick with such a nice formula eh, and actually improve it with a new model rather than making it pigfat shit.
Pic = my MR2 (and i guess my mx5 too but that's not so much the point).
>>703463987

>>703464042
Fun cars. I've got this 335i vert in the fleet at the moment. Nearly a perfect commuter car - smooth potent motor, well built, looks like a transformer putting the roof down. Throttle response lag kills the fun though.
>>703464348
I'm Canadian, so sadly I'm late to the party of cheap R32s. Now they cost anywhere from 20-40k from an importer. I'm going to go to Japan and hopefully find a private sale. If not, I'll go to an auction and pick one out and do the paperwork myself cause I'm a crazy passionate retard. I'm budgeting 20k but hopefully going myself will be cheaper.

>>703464453

A friend has an e46 330ci, I just love that engine... So smooth. I imagine the 335 motor must be even better.
>>703464693
Can't go too far wrong getting a merc. They don't build shit.
I really want to know if people you give you a wide berth on the road, or try to show off and road rage me back for driving a car on regular streets.
>>703464663
>Was a ticking time bomb of problems though
Yep!
Mine ticked right up to the moment i bought it... Then boom. 21 fails on the MOT, a young lad at the shop did it and when the boss got back and saw it he couldn't believe it and retested it himself - it was really that bad. And that was only a few months after I'd had the head gasket and alternator replaced... Fucker cost me £1200 to own for 6 months. A glorious 6 months it was though.
though i did get £200 back when i sold it i guess. £1k for half a year of mid engined fun isnt' too bad eh... right?
hmm... please lord let the denial stay strong... please.
>>703464765
335 motor would be perfect if I did not have to wait half a second between mashing the peddle and the engine responding. It's not turbo lag either. Something wrong in the throttle body design if the forums are to be believed.

Look for a beater 996 - they're cheap and no one knows the difference. They all pretty drive the same anyways. Ain't that expensive. They don't hardly ever break. Do your own oil changes and brake pads - it's easy and cheap.
BUT - you gotta have a source for good deals for tires. Rears can be expensive if you get Michelin Sport Cups, but just get Korean knock-offs and you'll be fine.
