I know where you're coming from. hence why i said I was appreciative of the suggestions. Enough priming of my brain with new music might change it in time. My tastes have changed considerably as it is. I cringe at some of the things I enjoyed listening to even just 5 years ago. Also, In Flames, Darkest Hour, Becoming the Archetype, Demon Hunter, Scar Symmetry, and Bury Tomorrow are great imo.

Not necessarily into straight growling. My taste is strange if you will. What I really love about Opeth (Ghost Reveries) and bands like *shudders* Lacuna Coil (the backup singer makes me cringe) is the balance of a great harmonic vocalist with an aggressive front man and heavy bass lines. If you can tack on good musicianship which changes time signature frequently and tone then thats a win for me.
