I don't know, it just seems like the sets coming out for the past 2-3 years have almost nothing useful in them beyond standard/limited. Its like Wizards is petrified of making objectively good cards or something so the more recent sets have been really boring and I've been unable to get enthused by them.

Yeah, I know. What I mean is that, yes, while there are a very small number of useful cards printed in recent sets, most of it is garbage which isn't competitive in any way in modern, legacy, or any interesting cube.
I've been hoping for a set to come along again where the mechanics or features of the set could be utilized in a way to create a new deck archetypes which may be able to compete with the long-established deck types out there.

We'll have to see what else is in it. It's possible there may be some artifacts which may combine well with other artifacts outside the set or maybe the energy thing could be used to skirt a lot of the mana cost for stuff. I'm sure they'll make all the mana costs and effects unmanageably high so it's useless out of standard though.
