WW1 theme but you just run around with Smgs and semi autos like any WW2 game. It would be way more fun if it was primarily bolt actions and artillery like WW1 was.
Using a sabre on a horse is pretty fun as well as dropping bombs from planes but otherwise it is disapointing.

There's some scenarios which are pretty cool which is what makes battlefield so much different than games like COD like when your sprinting towards objectives and there cannons smashing against the sand all around you and you jump into the hole it makes to take cover, and tanks obliterating buildings.

They had to make it appeal to the Battlefield fans and the masses. You can't expect console-peasant game to be realistic. There are plenty of realistic fps mmo's out there.
