In Islam (the proper one that we practice here, any way), when a person dies and their "funeral" (I don't know what consitutes a funeral, so I won't claim that it's a funeral) is done before the body is sent to burial, the cleric in charge makes an announcement to all attendees, something like "If the deceased has in any way any debt toward you, please don't hesitate to approach his next-of-kin (example, his wife) to seek compensation."
In the afterlife, unpaid debts are taken very seriously, thus the reason this announcement is very important.
It is one of the only four things I remember about these "funeral" proceedings.
