Lots of stuff goes higher than that. It's just that Gulden Draak does it without being heavy or hot. It goes down like it's got a lower ABV.
You want to go for high ABV stouts, I'm a fan of Brewdog Tokyo. It has to be served cold though. If it gets too warm the balance gets thrown off.

I think the market effect of exclusivity is just a bonus for these brewers.
It's really about economies/diseconomies of scale. Once they get to a point where they feel comfortable at a max size, if they want to get bigger, either that's going to lower quality standards due to less control over ingredients and production, or increase prices due to more overhead.
Plus, a lot of these guys got into the industry after quitting jobs specifically because they didn't want to work in the "must constantly expand to please the shareholders" mentality.
And the ones who did already sold to InBev/AnheiserBusch (e.g. Goose Island, Blue Point, Devils Backbone).

The Dragon Milk Reserve series was even better. I had the raspberry one (couldn't taste the fruit until it warmed up a bit) and the chocolate and coffee one which was a pretty standard combo, but still damn tasty

Depends on where you're at tbh. I like Belgian sours and the higher abv stuff, but Belgian IPAs blow. Germany definitely makes the best wheat beers and light beers, but of the German crafts I've had, they've been pretty...average. The craft movement is picking up there a bit, but there's still a lot of resistance to drinking anything other pilsners or hefes because of their age old Reinheitsgebot

Not him, but Stone has always been flaky about East Coast distribution because they go full out on hops and they worry that flavor will fall off and people will get a bad impression of their beers. Hence the "Enjoy by" series.
The reality is that craft beer doesn't sell nearly as well as craft beer enthusiasts believe in the grand scheme of things. I've seen former competitors of mine carry Enjoy By and then frantically trying to sell it at a discount on that date.
But Stone just opened a brewery and distribution center in Richmond VA in February so that should dial up East Coast distribution.
