I have an entire section on that, about why I did it, why she wanted me to do it, why I eventually stopped, but I haven't finished it yet. I have a very disorganized writing style, I'll jump from section to section, filling things in by bits and parts, until at the end, a whole story comes together. The sex with mom section isn't entirely done yet, but long story short, she wanted to keep me loyal, and she did so with money, sex, and a general spirit of loyalty, that it was just the two of us running the place, her and I against the world. This answer should come in two parts, I feel.
Our recruitment techniques generally worked best on people that were fed up with modern western lifestyles, people who were sick of waking up tired, going to work at a job they hated, going home to a family that barely tolerated them. Most of the people that moved out to live with us came because they wanted to live with a community of people that actually cared for them, they wanted to see and enjoy the products of their labor, they wanted freedom from the soulless consumerism of western society.
As for mom's actual personal manipulation stuff, she could play pretty much anyone. To put things into perspective, I KNEW what she was doing, and how she did it, and that she was doing it to me, yet she still had me hooked for almost a decade.
