I do love guns. But long arms aren't much of a hassle. I have to take a safety course and background check to make sure I'm responsible and not a criminal, in that order, and then I have to wait to get my possession and acquisition license in the mail. After that I can go buy all the long guns I want as long as they're not prohibited weapons like most H&K product and a large amount of slavshit and I have a means of securely storing them, IE a gun safe. Handguns and SBS or SBRs are different. I need a restricted license, which requires another safety course and BG check. Once I get my restricted weapons, I am not allowed to take them literally anywhere but the range, must store them and their ammunition in separate places, and must not deviate from my prescribed route between home and range. And god forbid I use a gun to defend myself. That's a whole other quagmire. On the upside, a restricted weapons license means I can own a fucking AR-15, for which I can acquire many interesting bits and bobs.

I may not agree with the restrictions on what I'm allowed to own or needing a totally separate license for handguns and short barrel rifles and SGs, but we don't have the worst gun laws by any stretch. I can literally buy an M14 clone for $6-700 CAD with a standard PAL. I could also get a Mossberg 500 or a Rem 870, a Lee Enfield, an SKS, a Mosin, or even a single-fire version of the C7, which you may know as the fucking M16. The catch is that rifles are limited to 5 round mags and shotguns to 3. Handguns can have up to 10. Can't have a full retard switch either. Fun fact; you can apply for a CCW in Canada, but you have to be being specifically targeted by criminals and such, so it usually only gets issued to high-profile judges and politicians. Also, you can get 20 and 30rd magazines for rifles as long as they're pinned so as to only hold 5, and those pins are very easy to remove if needed.
