OP do you have any tips for applying to ambulance companies? I got my NREMT in June, I had my first interview last week but apparently I blew it. (Not quite sure what I messed up on). I mostly talked about things I do at my current job, such as training employees, helping the company grow, things I've done to go out of my way for. Basically I followed the BAR method to every question they gave me (Background, Action and Result) The company I work for is a plumbing company so I don't have any experience in anything medical.. I was a medic in Africa. I'm no sociopath, but after a while, you can learn to just switch off. You still have to deal with it later, but it gets pretty easy to put it from my mind and deal with it off the clock. It's just a job. The key is, imo, to remove all the sanctity of human life out of the equation. Just treat it like a job you want to do well. Don't think more than you have to, and just put everything you have into the task at hand. I've seen some really fucked up shit, but I don't lose sleep over it any more. Shit happens. The noises they sometimes make was a bit trickier to deal with than the images though, especially children. But even that stopped being an issue most of the time.

Yeah I didn't know this going in and I studied my ass off of the test. I got to questions where I had no idea what was even being asked - the medical vocab was way the hell out of my ledge. Thought for sure I failed that test because these questions just kept comming and I just kept guessing. Never been so disappointed and then so happy when I found out I passed. There are multiple tier 1 trauma centers near me. I've worked in two of them. RNs are only doctor bitches. They push meds and that's it. The techs that work in the trauma ward have to be paramedics and have experience. They are the ones getting down in there actually handling the patient, starting IVs, drawing blood, etc. You can't even intubate. You are nothing more than a med pushing monkey that waits for a doctor's orders.
And when there's no trauma in the ward, it's a dumping ground for drunks and combative patients where you get to be the bitch for the day.
