Ok, I'll be serious then.

Even if you value your time at $1 per hour, it would be probably be cheaper to just buy a new cpu. I've bought entire computers at garage sales for $5.

Well, it'll still be weak on that point
but so long as he got it totally straight, and doesn't get is more careful with it, it'll be fine, it's just more fragile than before is all

No you wouldn't. Most of them are bent and would be a pain to try to fix them. Good question.

He used way too much thermal paste, and spreading it with a card causes air bubbles reducing thermal conductivity. It's best to just put a pea sized amount in the middle and then when you set the heatsink on top of it it will spread evenly and without air bubbles with the best thermal conductivity.
>>
>>699615636
ive always heard that, i really only use about a grain-of-rice-and-a-half size glob myself

though ive never seen a computer die or blow up from too much thermal paste. though id like to know specifically what complications occur when one does use too much

I never use a card. I use the grain of rice method. You are retarded if you think that the card method "creates air bubbles" that aren't pushed out when you put the heatsink on.

If air bubbles are true for card method, then it's true for the grain of rice method as well.

The way the thermal paste is displaced by the dot methods doesn't create air bubbles. Spreading it with a card does. It's not major, but could make it run ~5c hotter.

I have learned to science. I've also tested this on my own rig ~5 years ago. Like I said it's nothing major but does make the rig run hotter, especially at idle. I fail to see why someone would do more work to have less efficient thermal conductivity.
>>
>>699615434

This one is less funny, and more tragic.

For anyone that doesn't know, there were some intel cpus a while back that supposedly had lousy paste in between the die and the heat spreader. So people started replacing it themselves, which voids the warranty. That poor unlucky bastard ruined his CPU when part of the die came up with the heat spreader.

Plug is indeed European, either french or german style.
That kind of plug is also found in the balkans (unsurprisingly since they copy everything from the Germans).

With that said, as an Italian who traveled Europe quite a lot I've never seen such an abomination.

As long as the paste isn't electrically conductive you can use as much as you want. When you press the heatsink down any excess will just squelch out the sides. You're far better using too much than not enough.

It's just the only way to keep the PoS router having wifi.

Had it would not recommend. The wifi module has a tendency to overheat and drop signal. Frustrating and hard to trace down.

I think I took a full year to know what's going on. I suspected interferance from other wifis, my computer wi-fi failing, that someone d-dosing the router etc...

Holy shit even remembering this makes me mad.

How wrong is this? Let us count the ways:

1) She's obviously holding the soldering iron incorrectly as that would burn her.

2) She's not doing anything. He left hand is just sitting there. She's not soldering, there no solder. She's not desoldering, she doesn't have that solder-sucker, or a pair of pliers to pick parts out.

3) It's not plugged in, she's not screaming, so it's a staged shot. Not that there's really anything wrong with a staged shot normally, but this is a stages hot of a pretty girl in a maker-space/lab/whatever STEM local. The part which is wrong is the FORCED MULTICULTURALISM. So you can take your pretty girl with her diamond and earrings and fucking eyeliner and get back to the kitchen. There are plenty of REAL geeky chics that do a hell of a lot of really damn cool things and they don't need a fucking cosmo cover girl making them look bad.
