As an avid fisherman who comes from a fishing/hunting, I am totally fine with hunters who kill animals to eat (deer, birds, other non-endangered animals, etc). I was raised to only kill what I was going to eat, and I swore to never kill endangered animals. To kill an animal you must do it respectfully.

You fags do realize that most african 'safari' style hunts are for conservation right? Sometimes one animal has to die to benifit the herd. They often cost tens of thousands or dollars to participate in, most of that money goes to the game preserve to continue funding conservation, and lots of time(not all the time) the meat is donated to local villagers. The hunts are very controlled and the guides pick which animal you pay to shoot, which are almost always males or females past breeding potential, or they are old and on their way out, or are animals that have become agressive and are becoming a problem. Without hunters funding conservation there are LOTS of species that would already be extinct. Hunters are the ones who fund wildlife conservation because they want to be able to continue hunting. Groups like ducks unlimited, pheasants forever, quail unlimited, and big game hunting organizations are responsible for the restoration of habitat and reintroduction of deminished species throughout north america, as well as other places.

Depends on where you're fishing in your boat. If you're fishing near the shore, look for trees, logs, jetties, etc. If you're fishing far out, look for lumps/reefs. Most people just go to the coordinates of an artificial reef or mussel bed or even underwater canyons. Trolling is a bit different. Many people will troll past buoys or even near debris like buckets, crab pot floats, weed beds, or any other flotsam. It's all about cover/structure, really.

Yeah mistakes happen, that guys hunt was not through a reputable guide and is an asshole for doing so. Predators are often times allowed to be taken again, to benifit the herd/pride or if they have become a problem. The shots are moved to a controlled environment at times because some of the hunters aren't exactly the most skilled so detaining the animal may help it acheive a swift death, rather than some idiot dumping a bunch of slugs into a fleeing animals ass and having to track it down. I'm not saying that is right or the hunt i would like, but you have to understand that there are real reasons for doing it in that manner. They do more for conservation than any other segment of the population, granted there are bad apples like any other group and those relatively few bad apples go a long way to give hunters in general a bad name in the minds of those who already have a problem with hunting for whatever reason they may.
I find hunting to be an enjoyable pastime and a good way to bond with family members and friends, I strive to do it as ethically as I can from within the confines of the law, which unfortunately does not always make good sense. I enjoy the whole process from hunting to plating and enjoying.
As far as trophy hunting goes I'm pretty ambivalent. As long as it is done in some manner that benefits the local community and is managed by a conservation agency I think it is a net positive. I do find taxidermy to be somewhat tasteless but I don't begrudge those who opt to do so.
