Why is there so much hype around this shit game?
It's just a repetitive, boring-as-fuck single player snorefest.
What the fuck do people find enjoyable in this steaming pile of garbage?
No clue, it's garbage. Procedural maps are just a cop out for lazy world design. Its just the devs way of not having to do the hard work making a map.
Star citizen on the other hand looks impressive
>>698816113
It looks like it'd good to play if you just want to relax. Also looks like it'd get boring, fast. I'd get it if it were on sale or something, but I don't want to pay fill price for it.
Bump.
Is there anyone who actually enjoys this piece of horse shit?
I watched jack frags first look yesterday and it seemed neat, but boring. Like something to play if there is nothing else to olay, but the game forces you to find resources to get to the cool stuff like flying arpuns and exploring. It basically traps you on a planet.
>>698817164
Everyone on YouTube considering all the shit I got for criticizing it on some comments earlier
I have no interest in the game, at all. But you fags are being fucking children about this game. From what I've seen, it's nothing special, but it's not garbage either.
Lmao fags I'm still gonna buy it even its shit just so you know
>>698817882
As someone who works with videogame devs it just bothers me that people think procedural map generation is some miracle of coding. I have a friend who programmed an engine for procedural generation in .lua in a day. Its nothing impressive.

You know where you are right?
>>698816113
I'm autistic. I find the graphics and the exploration really fascinating. It reminds me of one of my favorite games Spore. Some people just don't like slow, calm games and that's totally fine. I just think it is nice to have a break from the fps genre.
>>698818192
Here is the target audience.
Repetition is soothing huh buddy?
>>698818300
I guess. But there are so many things to discover that it makes the repetition a little more tolerable. I'll get bored with it soon anyways.

I don't really see the point in it besides drifting to one planet to the other, not even multiplayer.

Then don't buy it, nigger.
Obviously you're not the target audience, so GET OVER IT.

Shush on my phonr
The textures are so bad, it's unexcuseable to demand 60 bucks for this shit.
>>698818149
Thats stupid. The game uses some mega formula stolen from some Swedish scientists. If you really did work for games then you would probably have some respect for this game.
It may be repetitive but it's different and took a lot of work make. It's not assassin's Creed 8 or fucking halo 8. It's different and original.
>>698819262
Is a phonr what a guy phone gets when it's horny?

>>698819701
The planets aren't generated before you "discover" them you fucking halfwit. The game only renders things in your FOV. for ducks sake fallout keeps more world items spawned in than this game. It looks like shit because of lazy devs.
>>698819528
Not him but the problem is people paying devs for this type of work. Even if it has a target audience they hyped it to shit, and everyone will buy it. This reinforces that this type of game should be made.

Can I be real for a second?
This community is fucking atrocious right now. You're all acting like a bunch of whiny, entitled little babies.
A tiny team of people made an entire universe for you to explore. They made it for YOU, and they're going to wake up tomorrow morning and see that instead of enjoying it, this community of "fans" picked out the 3 or 4 things that weren't perfect and are using that to fucking riot.
Guess what? The game was never going to be perfect. It was never going to live up to your hype. It was never going to be everything you'd ever want in a game.
What it WAS going to be was an impossibly big universe filled with mysteries and weird shit. I just played it for 2 hours and it was exactly that. What more do you want?
Is it buggy? Sure. Is it repetitive? Maybe. Is the inventory system imperfect and the multiplayer feature questionable and the structure unclear? Sure, fine.
But holy shit what do these people OWE YOU?
How fucking entitled do you have to be to explore an infinite universe in a spaceship and then say "yeah but..."
We should all be fucking weeping in our chairs right now at the sheer size and scale of the achievement. We should be showering the people behind this thing with the praise they deserve for pulling off one of the most inspiring games in recent memory.
Hello Games doesn't owe you the world. Yet they gave you 18 QUINTILLION of them.
If you have the fucking audacity to complain about it then you don't deserve it and you were never fans in the first place.

They are all amateurs and were too ambitous.

You gotta give them credit. 90% of the time they worked on the procedural algorythms. It's not like they slapped on a quick randomizer and called it a day. I believe it will be better than most procedural worlds.
Still looks too repetitive and kinda boring though. Overhyped game.
>>698819401
The game is neither different, nor original. IF you actually thought for a couple of seconds you would be able to trace back every single element to something else. What. Guy nothing about the game has been original. Just because it procedurally generates differently than other things doesnt make the game, which as a whole is just a bunch of mechanics that other games also have, is original. I never said that their procedural generation wasn't good, and in fact praised procedural generation earlier in the thread. However saying the game is original because it has a mechanic that a fucking million other games use, only it generates those differently, is actually retarded.

>>698820275
It always boggles my mind how every time an overhyped game comes out that doesn't deliver on it's promises, there's always faggots screaming "YOU DON'T DESERVE ANYTHING YOU PAID FOR FUCKING RETARDS YOU SHOULD BE ON YOUR HANDS AND KNEES KISSING THE DEVS' FEET FOR MAKING A GAME YOU CAN PAY $60 FOR AND PLAY FOR A FEW HOURS BEFORE RETURNING IT!"
Are they actually mentally ill? Or do they just not want to be wrong and let "le trolls", ie anyone with a realistic or negative outlook, "win" by being proven right? It's like they enjoy paying to be fucked in the ass. They waste their money, don't get what was advertised, and then say "You know what? Even though I ordered a steak and got a bucket of diarrhea, I still like it! They don't owe me anything!" and then they fucking run to their computers to do unpaid damage control for a fucking game developer who scammed them. I really don't understand this phenomenon. And it happens every. fucking. time.
>>698823166
Last i played of their stuff was only 3ish months ago and all they had was the dogfights and something else, nothing that would seemingly show what the game would actually require.

Imagine if NMS was just ONE big galaxy. Large planets, and the ability to change the environment permanently.
Now imagine you can form groups, or gangs, and start harassing space government trades, innocent aliens etc...
Or you could form your own council and start trade operations and be an alien ambassador.
Wow sounds like fun right? Instead NMS is an iron collecting game where you fly to a bunch of poorly textured drab planets with absolutely nothing to do, but it's okay because muh infinite universe (which isn't really infinite).
>>698823149
It isnt a joke buddy. If you were born in a certain time, the resources to diagnose autism werent available. I would seriously look into it bud. It might explain some troubles you have in life, and will allow you to understand why certain things have always given you trouble. I worked with an older guy who one fay went to the doctor and was diagnosed with aspergers. Once that happened, he became happier and more productive because he know realized that it wasnt just him being unable to grasp things because he was stupid, he actually had a condition. Look into it man, might turn your life around.

>>698822350
How the fuck would you create a game without using those basics. With that way of looking at I can say "braid" is just mario with a time mechanic or every stealth game after metal gear was a rip off metal gear. The game is different. You have a literal unlimited space that is guaranteed to be different every time you play. Minecraft has like 100 assets that generate over and over. This game uses thousands of assets that can mix with each other to create new stuff and will be the same when you fly back.
>>698823004
No they dont

>Yet they gave you 18 QUINTILLION of them.
Do you realise that those are generated and nobody ever reviewed them?
>for (i < 18,000,000,000,000)
> generate random planet
obviously wrong code and not even the same number, but same principal. It also only generates what's around you.
Pic related is a game from 1984 called "Elite" that originally had 2^48 (that's more than 18 quintillion) galaxies.
They could have picked ANY arbitrary number, because they are procedurally generated.
Here's a quote:
>Each galaxy is also procedurally generated from the first. Braben and Bell at first intended to have 2^48 galaxies, but Acornsoft insisted on a smaller universe to hide the galaxies' mathematical origins
Did you know even fucking Minecraft can generate procedurally? Just generate with the same seed twice, and you will generate the same world twice, because the operations are always the same.
Did anyone ever hype minecraft for its almost infinitely big universe?
No, because it's just randomly generated, just like No Man's Sky.
Did you know there is a space simulation game called Space Engine that actually contains all REAL planets in the observable universe, plus many more procedurally generated planets, that is FREE and has MUCH better graphics?

Jesus Christ, a developer makes a game unlike any other with 18 quintillion planets, SEAMLESS Planetary entrance and exit, moons, real-time planet rotations and orbits, generated creatures and species on different planets. Multiple galaxies, different story paths, lots of ships, FREE Continual updates, and more.
And poorfags like you who never worked a goddamn day in your life cry and complain and say the stupidest shit. Yet every fucking year you shill out $60 for the latest CoD, beat the short campaign, and play MP on the same 7 maps for 200+hrs to get 10th prestige and do it all over again next year. Then you go out and dish $60 on Destiny, then $30 on each expansion that literally only adds 2 hours of content.
Newfags like you are why games are getting worse and why this board gets worse and worse.

Look as a programmer, that's a plenty of bullshit right there. I am pretty sure they built a "kinda working" generator for the planets and then sorted them out by hand.
I think it was like one guy working on it, then a few more sorting shit? I mean one person can do the generation easily, biome and all included, then just someone has to filter.
I am sure Minecraft has more "randomness" in it, than this game ever had. I fucking hate Notch, I am just saying that his game relies on pure randomness, while this title is basically sorted out, kinda random stuff.

surely they sorted 18 quint planets by hand.
What they probably did was observe random planets for really unusual creatures of formations or whatever and then coded some hard limits on those attributes so that it would limit the generations to what is expected.
You think Minecraft is completely random with no checks?
Minecraft generates beautiful smooth landscapes that have been often improved over the years.

> sort 18 quintillion planets
I'm pretty sure there are basic planet types that have been sorted from a rough algorithm, then those get modified by a second run.
It's not fucking rocket science.
Normies now think they are playing some Stephen Hawking level game, while it's just generated by rock simple algorithms.
It's a shame.

There are 3 different paths so far from what I can tell.
As I've been playing the 2 main paths are find the Center of your current Galaxy (haven't gotten there yet, not sure what happens), and to find Atlas stations (that Diamond on the sky), the third option I think is to make your own path and do your own thing. There's mystery surrounding Atlas and what he is, from the shrines and passages I've found on planets it may be evil.

Exactly, but as I said no algorithm could generate that eighteen gazillion planets by itself. Or the creatures totally, etc.
But people now think they did just run some "magicAlgorithm()" and it spits out a fucking planet. Wow. Put that in a for loop, call it a day, and you have a game!?

>>698825931
>Exactly, but as I said no algorithm could generate that eighteen gazillion planets by itself.
Yes it could.
There is one algorithm that generates a new seed based on your location coordinates.
This seed is then passed to a function that takes the random seed and generates a sphere (planet) with attributes (size, shape, color, atmosphere) that is determined by the random seed and limited to realistic values.
Another function then generates the animal life by determining the attributes (all leg shapes and sizes, colors, sizes, and so on) based on the random seed and maybe even the environment attributes.
It does this when you change your location, and to everything that is in your visible range.
That means if a player were to go to the same location as another, then the function would generate the same seed, which generates the same planet, which generates the same wilflife and same whatever else.
Now you can repeat this for every location and the number of planets depends on the max dimensions of the coordinates they let you travel in.

>>698826589

Changes on the planet (only some) are saved client side only and generated on top of the original generation from the original seed.
>>698826589
>That is heavily possible, and do-able, indeed.
That's how procedural generation works and minecraft does exactly the same, along with many other games. It's not really impressive and once you got your algorithms going, you can generate as much as you want.

Minecraft generates from seed, and can re-generate from an input seed, but it saves the chunks you encounter.
Because the player modifies said chunks, and "modified the world". It's easier to just save the world as it is, instead of storing the seed, and tracking every change.
Doing regeneration and tracking changes would require very extensive coding.
I don't know if you can influence a planet in NMS in such a way that it would require storing changes.

When games like this come out. Everyone is pissed that it's not a multiplayer bullet fest. Games that try new and risky things are what make gaming great. There are tons of failures but the success of games like minecraft, animal crossing show that people like it. And when it comes out of a small team of hard working, devoted people, instead of a massive army of corporate marketers and depressed, underappreciated programers, it's makes the success all the sweeter.
>>698820752
>hard work
I hate this phrase. First of all, hardness is a measure of resistance to separation. Second, Work is a measure of force by distance. Literally nothing you do while playing games is work. You probably don't even hold the control group (keyboard, controller, etc.) above the ground. You probably rest it in a stationary position the majority of the time.
Third, work cannot be hard. Work is a descriptive measure along with hardness. They cannot describe one another for they describe singular phenomena which happen to be mutually exclusive.
I am sad and lonely.

Yeah, but you're not one, because you're fucking retarded.
Just because a feature or program happens to be of the same type as another it doesn't mean that 1) they are of the same sophistication, 2) that they required the amount of work or 3) that they produce equivalent results.
I can write a non-optimizing x86 compiler for a small language in an hour or two, but that doesn't mean that every other compiler is a trivial piece of garbage.
While I don't know or care about the procedural map generation in this game, it could certainly be done in sophisticated ways, for example by using machine learning techniques like estimating a probability distribution over the (infinite) space of possible maps and sampling from that.
tl;dr: fuck off retard.

Picked it up yesterday, followed very little of the media before the game was released. What you do in the first 20 minutes of the game is extrapolated into the "infinite gameplay hours" you will endure.
It's mostly going from one barren planet to the next, with a change in color palet. Everything you do uses resources, so the more you travel, the more you need to mine minerals and elements.
The scope of the game is vast, and almost infinite, but the lack of variety in gameplay, and the fact that it's more of a survival game via mining resources, and less of an exploratory adventure game that turned me off of it.
If they incorporated actual missions, instead of go here, gather resources because you used most of yours to get there and walk around, and then go to the next planet that is a color-variation of the last, I would be more inclined to keep playing it.

>Watch Dogs
>successful
Hahahahah I keep calling you ignorant but I really shouldn't bother, you're doing that on your own.
>tell us about all the other sci-fi games built around pure exploration with a massive universe?
There's been 6-7 of them mentioned in this thread already. Try reading the thread next time before jumping in to act like the Sony Internet Defense Force.

Maybe it just sucks as an exploration game.
>>698818169
How new here are you faggot?
>>698840844
That could be, too. 12 hours do seem like a short time to such a statement, though.
I am sure the reasons people have for not liking it are valid, at least for them. I wasn't trying to stir shit.
>>698841228
The fact that every piece used in the procedural jumble can be recognized so fast shows how shit the process used really is.
>okay Timmy just take these five Lego pieces and explore how many times you can put them together and take them apart to put them together again isn't this endless fun?
>>698820865
I can hear the screech just from looking at this
>>698821271
The game is over hyped trash With nothing original brought to the table. Even the backstory is something that someone like you can write when your mom buys you new crayons.
Dmc series is my favorite.

It's the Batman V Superman of the vidya world
Remember we'll all be laughing at you as you sow your fuccboi oats.
>>698819938
>I was massively hyped for a game
>I saw some streams and it all turned to disappointment
>saw streams
>saw

First of all:
> there is a forum for these kinds of threads and it isnt /b/.
Second of all:
>if you dont like the game stop commenting. Let others enjoy it.
Think for one second how much time you spent hating on games and movies and bands and in that time maybe you could've created something worthwhile that others could judge.
>>698840742
I'm too lazy to attack all your points one by one. They're just so stupid. Of course everyone claims the largest world, but this game is undeniably the largest. By a massive fucking margin at that. I never said "its indie so it must be great" jackass. The point was that theyre a small studio and not the massive ones that crank out the same garbage with minor tweaks because your dumbass said this game is closer to those titles. You can argue Watch Dogs was not successful, i'll even agree cuz that game sucked. AND YET, its getting a fucking sequel. Soooo it was successful enough.

Jesus Christ never seen this type of rekt before

If you don't like the criticisms stop posting.

You did when you were born, you slid out of something that was more equal to or more than that.
>>698843646
>>698843676
Lol you spend your short time on earth hating on things you could never create yourself. How does it feel mane
>>698819938
Star Citizen is over.
>>698843676
> more equal to or more
Literally wut
>>698820502
>it doesnt have all the features you were hyped to believe
If you fall for the hype it's your own fault. Half the reason highly anticipated games get shit thrown at them by the community is because people overhype it, so when it comes out people are left hugely disappointed.
>>698843399
>this game is undeniably the largest
No it's not.
>I never said "its indie so it must be great"
Yes you did. You're whole "big studios create shit so that means this small studio doesn't create shit" deflection is fucking stupid.
>your dumbass said this game is closer to those titles
It is. It's half-assed, no substance garbage like all those other soulless AAA titles you hate and it only sounds impressive and original if you don't know jack shit about video games.
>its getting a fucking sequel. Soooo it was successful enough.
The sequel was greenlit before the original was even released, Mr. Knows-Jack-Shit.
>>698844086
Obviously was a typo
>>698844005
I don't hate the game I just think it's bad and I don't understand why someone would buy it. But I have no qualms
>>698844005
Lol you spend your short time on earth hating on posts you disagree with. How does it feel mane

I spend my short time keeping slapsticks like you in line before your fingers fall off from playing vidya all day, jerking to women you could never get and roasting games you havent played. Go back to school.
>>698844666
Think for one second how much time you spent hating on slapsticks like me and in that time maybe you could've created something worthwhile that others could judge.
>>698845092
You're triggered
>>698844666
So you spend you time being a fat hipster that still lives with his grandmother harboring in his anger that his uncle fucked him. You're retarded and disagree just to do it, you know the game is bad.

Post a picture of yourself lets see it
