Cat tips: feed them as much wet food a possible, more water avoids kidney stones that ki,l a lot of cats.
If you can afford it, save up some money and get their teeth cleaned once a year or two. Costs 100 ro 200 bucks but keeps,their teeth in good shape. Also use a little anti plaque stuff on their teeth or brush them if you can. But you usually have t start them from a young age.
Also indoor cats survive a lot longer on average.

Other cat tips:
1. Get them fitted with an RFID chip, that way if they ever escape (if they're indoor) or get lots or trapped (if they go out) there's a way for them to get help getting home to you.
2. Get your cats a great cat tree. A big one is less than $100 during the holiday sales. Cats love them. Best gift I ever got for my kitties.
3. Feed them as much meat as you can afford. Most cat foods have grains as filler, and cats didn't evolve to metabolize corn and wheat. Meat and veggies is the best diet for cats.

Anon is correct. The entirety of the first knuckle must be removed, either with a scalpel or nail clippers (vets who do it this way are shit because it doesn't always get a clean cut).
If you have a cat, take their paw and extend their claws by putting a slight pressure behind their toes. Observe the flesh colored skin the surrounds the nail. All of that, and more under the skin, is removed and the hole is glued shut.
If you don't want an animal that has the potential to scratch you or your furniture, don't get a cat.
It also very easy to flip and maintain short nails on cats. This is the most humane way to deal with cat claws, as it blunts their nails and is painless, and can save your furniture. Always provide your cat with appropriate toys and scratching posts.
