The Infinity uses forerunner tech that is well beyond what the convenent ever figured out. Remember the Covenent were hampered by believing the forerunners were gods and their tech was holy and had to be respected and worshiped. Well, ships like that size i think are called motherships, and since they are so big like a minicity, they cant land on a planet cause imagine the structural shit that you would need to do for doing that instead of just orbit such planets, and with the shield issue, well a building with a cone in the direction of travel like the empire state building, but i think there is no shield anyway that could make it at thosee speeds, maybe some sort of magnetic shield.

Space is not a perfect vacuum. There's still a ton of stuff floating around. Granted heat transfer isn't as efficient in space it still happens. Go read up on the apollo 13 situation for more information on cooling/heating in space.
