I live in southern California and the animal rescue center had to start licking the overnight animal kennels because multiple homeless people would climb into them and sleep

I've been homeless for not finding work and having no family (in rockford, IL) It took months of hell to get out of it after I lied about having an address to get work at a temp agency.
The number one rule I had was to never associate with homeless people whatsoever. They will use you, steal from you, and drag you down and you will never be able to progress and better yourself if you hang around with them.
Also, there is a difference between those who are chronically/intentionally homeless and those are trying to get through a very rough and unfortunate part of their lives. I'm still not expecting sympathy, but i, as former homeless, can say that I also hate a lot of chronically homeless people. They do not want to better themselves.

There's a lot of crackheads and addicts in London. I used to hang in some local pub in local are where I lived back then and I met pretty nice looking partially homeless girl, she was very acceptable looking. Fast forward 2 years now she's covered in grime, lives permanently on street and needs to beg because she can't sell her body any more. Heroin and needles have fucked up her circulation and she looks like she's not going to live for much maybe 2-3 years max.

New developments are pushing homeless people out of downtown and into uptown. I live in University Heights/North Park area, and I've seen a huge increase in the homeless population here.
I was homeless for almost a year after my discharge from the military. I took an honorable discharge after 10 years active duty. It was awful. I went to the va and long story short, after several appointments, I'm at 100% disability, and attempting to change my dd214 to reflect a medical retirement, bought a house with the back pay, living happily. While I was homeless, life sucked. I never attempted panhandling, couldn't swallow my pride. I ran into a guy who directed me to the va, and haven't looked back. I have a lot of respect for the homeless, you never know their backstory.

I work at a hookah lounge and this fucking homeless guy has been nothing but a fucking rat since we
opened a while ago. The first time he came in, and this incident really pissed me off this fucker brought in
his homeless hoard of trash and left all this shit lying around inside our lounge. My boss told me to tell
him to fuck off, which I did only for my boss to go running after him and inviting him to stay another 20
minutes inside, like thanks for making me look like an asshole.
Whatever his plan was backfired badly because now the homeless guy comes in EVERYDAY and gets free food from

My boss had a bad home life as a kid. He left home in his early yeRs and was homeless for a few weeks until he got jumped by a hobo. He went into city hall and said I'm homeless I need help.
They put him in a jail cell for a few days to detox then put him in some dive hotel. They said he can stay there as long as he wants as long as he stays clean. He got a job and moved out of there a few months later and eventually started his own business.
There is help for people that want it as long as they follow the rules. If you don't want to follow the rules then I don't feel sorry for you. Many people have had bad lives growing up and they fucking deal with it.

Today there was a guy outside of a McDonald's. He asked for money for food, said he was homeless. I said "sorry man", but then went in to get a sausage burrito and got one for him as well.
Hand it to him, he looks repulsed, says "what the FUCK am I gonna do with that??", throws it on the ground and steps on it, walking away muttering to himself.
Also, I used to work in a SHIT part of town (actually most dangerous neighborhood in America for several years). Harassed constantly by "homeless" people asking for money for food. It got so bad I filled up a McD's and Subway gift card, each with $10, and started offering it to them. Always some excuse about why they didn't want it. I must have offered them both over 100 times.
Money is more important than food. the food angle is to get them to give guilt money.
If you still want to give the beggars money, be professional about it, ask if they want food or money. don't just impose toxic McDonald's garbage on someone unsuspectingly. they're just trying to make a decent wage by begging.

Different anon here. I was homeless for about three months of my life. I came from a broken home; working-class family in which my father was an abusive alcoholic and my mother was a drug addict. My mother lost custody of me when I was very young.
I went to live with my father and his mother (grandmother) Up until a few years ago when grandmother passed away. My father' s abusive tendencies and alcoholism only worsened with the death of my grandmother who was a good woman, and unfortunately a victim of his mistreatment too.
Longer story short once she passed away, my father and I were forced to get a shitty apartment together after losing our house.
The abuse at home got to a boiling point, and I ended up being homeless living in my car for about three months
I can tell you guys from personal experience that most homeless people around your cities are drug addicts who do not want to help themselves. One night I went to go to stay at a shelter and literally everybody I saw in there was on something. Most are homeless by choice.
When I asked the faculty about the kinds of people that come through there They said that most of them were on drugs and theives.
"Very rarely do we get people who come through like you knowing what they gotta do to get back on their feet."
Finally live in a nice house, going back to school in a month to finish my electrical engineering degree that I had to put on hold. Got a great job that I love. Run three times a week, have food...Life is going well.

It worked out very well actually. I ended up working for the very town I squatted in. I'm a groundskeeper for the city. I do alot of landscapping and gardening around town like parks and the courthouse. It's hard work especially during the summer, but it pays very well.
