I have UC and had a sub total colectomy back in November. No meds ever worked for me sadly, went all the way through Mezalazine, azathioprine, even a clinical trial where they infused me with a mixture of Chinese hamster ovaries and human protein straight to the veins. Nothing too me out of the flare. Getting over the surgery wasn't easy, took several months but having an ileostomy has saved my quality of life, no doubt.
If the drugs don't work, get that bastard out. I've never felt better.
