Angle of view and distance are different. I'm not quite convinced the one on the left is a photo actually. The terminator (night/day line) is too gradual and the night side is too light.
In any case, the 2012 shot looks like it was taken from much lower orbit with a wider angle lens. It has the fish-eye quality about it.

Have you ever taken a picture using manual settings on a camera? On a typically sunny day, you might set your camera for ASA 400, your lens at f 8, and shutter speed at 250th sec. You will get a nicely exposed picture of land. There are perhaps (good guess here) 10,000 objects that are large enough to appear in this kind of video. So figure out how far apart they must be - very far indeed. Also consider that you want to *avoid* other satellites, so you put your valuable objects into orbits that avoid collisions. Lastly, the ISS is in a low Earth orbit, and the video is facing basically down. There won't be (m)any satellites in lower orbit, so that's not a good place to point if you wanted to find other satellites. Put all that together.

Several people have brought this up as a flaw with flat earth theory. It's not. If the earth were a disc, with the magnetic north pole at the center, airplanes merely traverse in a circle, or arc, around the circle. You could start in Toronto, at a latitude of 43 degrees, always fly "east" (remember, north points to the center of the circle), and you'd fly by all the other cities/provinces at that latitude: Rochester, Monaco, Bilbao, Tuscany, Cannes, Sochi, Xinjiang, Hokkaido, Boise, and back to Toronto. North/south flights work the same way for regions at the same longitude radiating outward from the north pole. And diagonals would just fly you in an arc if you followed a compass southeast.
I'm not saying the earth's flat, that's 15th century stupid, but the "why don't airplanes fall off the edge" is like 1500 BCE stupid. A disc model answers that pretty well, as long as you never ventured past the south pole, which nobody did until the 20th century.
