So, I don't go out of my way to look for an SACD version if it's available. FLAC of a normal CD is fine for me, or vinyl FLAC if CD MP3 is the only other option.

Justice was very good as well, but still think Puppets was better.
Black album, everything goes to shit. Songs aren't complete garbage, nice riffs etc, but it's a completely changed band.

First three albums, 85-88, meh. Peace Sells is pretty damn good, but still a bit meh. Feel same way about it as I do about Kill 'Em All.
They get Friedman/Menza and they start producing god-tier music. They have a much longer streak of good albums. Even their stuff into the later '90s was really good. Their music just sounds more complex, sophisticated, better than any of Metallica's songs, even their first three albums.

Still, they put out way more music after 2000 and some was decent. Whereas Metallica only put out one decent album so far, and I think it's popularity was a bit skewed because it was a breath of fresh air compared to St. Anger (and Reload, but that album wasn't terrible, just not comparable to Megadeth.)

Black album, Load, and Reload all had decent tracks, good riffs, etc. If they had stayed more in the direction of Justice, then they would have made some really good albums into the 90s
Seasoned Coltrane fans would rather put Giant Steps or A Love Supreme, but Blue Note is the perfect introduction to his stuff, and still a great listen for anyone who doesn't wish to delve any deeper.

Seventh Son isn't as famous because it followed Somewhere in Time, which put off a lot of fans, and Number of the Beast doesn't get as much recognition because they weren't really all that established as a band yet, and Invaders, the opening track to the album, was shit.

I agree that they *could* have. But more likely their dwindling audience and income would have raised the tension among the bandmates, eventually leading to a catastrophic series of arguments that would culminate in the band breaking up or something Hetfield wresting sole control of the band and firing everyone else. There's virtually no way Hetfield would still be able to maintain all but the crudest semblence to the band's original sound with whatever replacements he would eventually settle on, so a stylistic change similar to the one in Load would end up occurring. It almost certainly wouldn't be as good(I do think Load has quite a bit of good musicianship in it). The new musicians would be a revolving door, and the band would be impossible to enjoy any attachment to. In short, while I'm not very fond of Load, or the bulk of Metallica's output afterwards, I recognize that they made the only possible decision that would allow them to survive as a band. And they did.

"Melodeath" is an overused term often used to describe bands attempting to make themselves sound "pretty", or more appealing to the masses. This was evidenced in the Gothenberg Death Metal scene. There are a few bands that are labeled as such but reject the label, for good reason.
Black metal is fantastic of course, but the meaning of real black metal has been watered down due to the commercialization of metal.
Death metal has become extremely trendy and it is hard to find a good death metal band these days.
Speed metal is often better when fused as an element in some cases.

I disagree with the assertions on melodic death metal; it's a much different sound, not truly overused, but rather more poorly defined than other genres. It simply takes a growl, and a slowed, more melodic lead guitar to create melodeath. I can't emphasize overt similarities between Insomnium and Amon Amarth, but I love both of them, and they both are considered part of the genre. So, if you want to blame overuse of labeling, blame the genre for not clearly defining itself. Sorry for the wall of text.
