if you don't plan on using it a lot and don't want to have to constantly clean it so it doesn't misfire then getting a revolver is the way to go. I have a "baby glock" I bought for CC but since I never really carry it or fire it I wish I bought a S&W 38 revolver.
Personally my advice is don't buy a gun unless you live in a ghetto where car jackings are an everyday reality like in Brazil. Waste of money imo, you have a better chance of getting hit by a car than actually needing a gun for protection.
If you do get one though, I would suggest a S&W 38 revolver, small enough for CC and you don't need to bother cleaning it every time you take it out shooting and it will never misfire; also, if you cant get the job done with 5 shots then you are outgunned and outmanned and dead even if you have an AK or AR.

We know. The gun isn't gonna magically jump up and start shooting people. That's what safes are for. My carry is locked in my truck and will go back on my hip when I get off work. My other handguns are in a biometric nightstand vault for if someone kicks in the door while I'm in bed. Literally a couple seconds to get in and only I can do it. My long guns are in a locked cabinet. And when I go to bed my carry goes into a lockbox with the rest of my edc. It's called common sense. What others do with guns isn't the guns fault. I conceal carry a Sprinfield XD mod2 sub compact .40 s&w. I use an alienware inside the waisteband holster at my 5 o'clock.
I obviously have my permit. My advice for first carry? Get a glock or a springfield. 9mm .40. .45. Subcompact. The springfields come with extended mags for range fun. My gun is not a single stack as well.
9mm if youbhavent shot before or been awhile is a great round. Not to mention very managable recoil.
If you start out with something with to much kick. You can pick up bad habbits like anticipating recoil. If you want expensive. Get a 1911 from a decent -good maker. They come in various flavors including sub compact as well. Mag swapping is easier than reliading a revolver. Revolvers , some are great purse carry guns. Cause you can fire them without issue from inside the purse. Some of my thoughts.

One important thing people like you completely fail to understand is that straw purchases are not made by regular law abiding citizens. The best advice for anyone that is going to carry is to go to the range, pick up as many firearms as you can, and put some lead down range. Pick the one you're most comfortable with.
Then, shoot. A lot. I shoot every weekend. A hundred rounds on average. Takes about 35 minutes out of my day each saturday.
