What should the website's HTTP port be?

I made a very small website.

The default HTTP port of "80" and even the alternate HTTP port of "8080" is blocked by the ISP; and apparently most ISP's; because of reasons.

The other "official" alternate HTTP ports are "591" and "8008". So I've decided to ask you for your advice. Thank you.

Thank you.
>>
More details and context.

Apparently, as far as I can tell, it seems that the default HTTP port of port "80" is blocked by my ISP. The ISP puts in the effort to do this on purpose because they want you to give them money to run a website on your computer. Instead of running it on your "home" IP address. So it's basically artificial benefits. It can be enabled for free. But it is disabled. So you give them more money. Like a lot of things these days. Also port "8080" is also blocked. I'm guessing that maybe if port "80" doesn't work than the browser may actually try port "8080". I used firefox and chromium. Neither firefox nor chromium seems to attempt try "591" or "8008". "591" and "8008" are listed as "alternate" HTTP ports - however. So. I'd rather use those. I can probably use any port. Wouldn't make much of a difference. But whatever. Also port "0" doesn't work or isn't accepted in what I'm using to attempt to get the website up right now. Also port "1" is accepted and works in chromium but firefox says it's not opening it "for your protection". Port "2" does work. But - again - I would rather use port "591" or port "8008" because they're more official. And yes I can use both ports. But I may forward the website address to other things. So I need to pick 1.

I don't like /g/ because they're full of cancer, too serious, delete bans me for disagreeing with them, can't delete threads or posts, threads and posts go on forever, etc.. Also /b/ is my internet "home" and board", as it were. Even if limited to my own small threads on /b/ now. Etc..
Easier said than done. Also 4 and jewgle don't do that; and this is a small website anyway. Also I actually was attempting to use "free hosting" for a long period of time. They all suck. They ban me all the time as well. For stupid things like a text file on there has profanity, etc.. The idea of not using stupid things like that was the entire reason I made the site...

You're kinda fucked. Browsers are by default going to need port 80.. otherwise pick any sane port. 1337 or anything, you'll just have to include it in your url for sharing, i.e.: http://127.0.0.1:1337/opisafag.html

VPS'es aren't shit. Try linode or digitalocean. Alot less hassle.
>>
>>696815618

No I'm not. That's what I'm doing. "1337" isnt' HTTP. I already knew that. But I won't have to with what I'm doing because of reasons. i.e.. http://127.0.0.1:8008/anonisafag.html

VPS's are shit. No. A lot more hassle. It will be independent of that because it "just werks".

If you include the port in your url it doesn't matter what url you use. IF you're ISP is blocking common server ports then welp you're fucked if you need port 80 no matter what. No other defaults are used except for 443 but thats HTTPS not HTTP and you'd require a SSL Certificate or make a self-signed one

So I'm not sure what else you want. Either include the port in the URL (HTTP supports that in the URI specs). Browsers REALLY want to connect to port 80 for HTTP.

Alternate ports are provisionary "alternate ports" and don't have to be strictly applied to by browsers. In fact half of web-dev is trying to reconcile all the diff. browsers and how they interpret the same standard.

Your ISP isn't blocking port 80.

It's probably against their policies to allow you to host services with your residential broadband account but odds are that they won't stop you.

Then why isn't port 80 or port 8080 working? 591, 8008, etc. have been tested and work.

Well. Seems like they are. I looked it up and the only explanation that came up was that the ISP is blocking port 80, etc.. But thank you.

Seems highly unlikely.

If they would go to the trouble to block any ports they'd simply block all ports.

What is this shit-tier ISP of yours?

So the one thing you could tell us that might prove that what you're saying is actually true that wouldn't be giving out your IP address is something you aren't comfortable telling us.

Either you're trollin' or your ISP is beyond shit-tier ... like, dial-up, doomed-to-fail, drug-cartel-money laundering in a one-horse town ... shit-tier.

How about some screenshots of you portscanning your own network with the IP address redacted?

There's no need to prove it. I'd rather not say.

I get "you're trollin'" a lot. It's not that bad. It's faster than dial-up, it's successful, not involved in drugs or a 1-horse town... fine-tier.

I don't know how to portscan my own network so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

>I get "you're trollin'" a lot.

Maybe that's because whether you're cognizant of this or not, you are in fact trollin' ...

Lots of web based port scanners available.

How did you check if your ports were open originally?

>Maybe that's because whether you're cognizant of this or not, you are in fact trollin' ...

I guess so...

I don't like www-based stuff.

I opened the ports then I checked if they worked.
>>
>>696819993

I didn't ask you if you checked I asked you how.

You didn't check if they worked by checking if they worked.

You don't like www-based stuff ...

Then what did you use in the first place?

You're a troll.

> I guess so...

No need to guess. Either you're a troll or have a serious learning impairment. I suppose you might be high on crack ... that's a legitimate excuse. I've known enough crack heads to know.

I went to the IP followed by the port.

I did.

I don't.

My www browser.

I guess so...

y-you too...

Do you have any recommendations for what software I should use as a port scanner?

I'm using windows 7 right now. Will probably be using GNU Linux Ubuntu in the future.

Again it's just a test right now and yeah.

well... thanks anyway...

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/155802973/1day.html

if you want to bookmark that and visit it the 1st of every month or so

i'm poorfag and it's difficult to allocate the money and resources to do this. but i'm pretty much devoting all my time, effort, and life to this. i've been doing that for a long time now. so, hopefully, it's happening soon. hopefully.

i'd like to have it redirect to the up site soon but i can't predict the future so please be very patient and please believe
