It takes a pretty long time, though depends how much you focus on just that boat/if you do premium/a bunch of other stuff. I really can't recommend playing just to unlock a high tier boat. We had a guy in the TG also trying to unlock Iowa, got up to North Carolina in less than a month by burning money on premium and constantly playing before getting burned out.

From what I've seen and read its comparison towards Dark Souls contributed to its mixed reviews. Gets repetitive after prolonged play even with the randomly generated dungeons, buggy co-op, use of the never ending mob spawn mechanic, and lack of narrative and character progression are some of the points I saw. If it wasn't credited as a mini Dark Souls during the anticipation of release maybe people wouldn't have been so critical. Just seems like it's either hit or miss for everyone.

The philosophies discussed were interesting too, specially the allegory of the cave which was referenced multiple times.
The lack of action scenes was a bit disappointing considering the setting, but I'm okay with that since the story always had a good flow and compensated with powerful mindblows.

They are mostly pretty great in their own rights. But I would have to say MGS1 is the best one. I play these games like an over-the-top spy game and view them as 80s hollywood made into vidya. But all of the MGS games are worth a playthrough in release order. With MGSV being a controversial title. I enjoyed it for the smooth gameplay and kinda ironically liked the story, but was ultimately disappointed because the story wasn't finished and all the lost potential it had.

I think the amount of references and symbolism actually hurts the show and is probably why it's so often cited as pretentious. My biggest problem with it was how the symbolism generally felt disconnected, you should have some core central themes and build everything around those, with symbolism and depth tying specifically into those themes, Ergo proxy on the other hand felt like they were using symbolism for the sake of it.
Like, cool all the council members are named after people in the post structrual movement, but then they also have Descartes. Generally it's more like a namecall/reference to western philosophy instead of actually exploring a few ideas. Compare with Eva which has clear symbolism built around introverts and human relations, then with some red herring/visual cues from christianity.

Yeah that's what I meant, personally it's a balance, and you also have to consider different cultures, Anno picked the heavy christian influence purely because it looked cool and was foreign to him, in the same way western shows/movies have had random asian influences because why not.
But considering someone else from the thread (Rory?) disliked the use of that imagery in Eva while I was fine with it in a similar position with Ergo proxy, comes down to personal taste, as long as there an actual central theme.
