It's small, nimble, fun to drive, great fun to touge, pretty rare and a bit of an icon.

Effortless torque, stupid reliability, and it will still run mid 13's all day on a 335,000 km stock engine.
>>
>>696597293
Well the truck is older so it gets shit mileage. I've tested it to be around 13-14 MPG mostly highway commute. The lift and more importantly the tires do affect mileage, also it's a 5.3 V8 4x4. It's a 3 and 3 lift, 3 body and 3 suspension.

I've never had a problem with that. Changed the spark plugs a lot though. Every time they just come out of the hole and I go to autozone and just buy the standard spark plug and it fits right in, 9th gen F-150 owners with their big high and mighty v8's are like "buh buh muh v8 muh torque"

yeah, and what about your torque when your exhaust manifold falls down onto the roadside? harrr!

'98 Mercedes E-320

Pros:
>Super comfortable to drive; automatic, but a switch to start in either 1st or 2nd gear, same holds true for reverse
>Pretty fast, can usually match highway speeds by the end of the on-ramp
>Handles very well
>Great sound system
>Leather seats
>Tinted windows (for shenanigans)
>20 gallon tank means I can basically get at least 475 miles before refueling. I've gotten up to 600 before

Cons
>Requires premium gasoline ( >91 octane)
>Needs 8.5qts (9 liters) of Mobil1 0w40 or 5w40 full synthetic motor oil, which costs about $100

Overall, I've put 90,000 miles since I got it at 115k miles about 7 years ago, and it runs as good as when I got it. Got it for a hell of a deal, too! $5500

Pretty much the most unimpressive hot hatch there is. But I like it anyway. I don't care to impress. The pic is not mine, just identical to mine. I got it from a stealership, previous owner must have gone off the road or something because it had all kinds of front end damage I gradually discovered after buying it. Mine is missing the black lip on the front bumper. The top radiator mounts were busted causing the radiator to move around. Intake was all busted up, wiper fluid leaked profusely, lots of vacuum leaks ect. like it took a hit in a ditch. Poor thing was like an abused puppy.

I'm still getting it back in shape a year later. I've been strapped for cash, it's been a struggle. But I can't help but feel like this was meant to happen. I had wanted a Mazdaspeed 3 and couldn't find a decent one anywhere. This was my compromise. It was fate. It's my destiny to make it a fire breathing monster. And god damn it I will or I'll die trying.

The cheapest car you can afford in Russia. Costs from 200 to 1000$
Pros:
-cheap
-can be repaired by screwdriver and hammer
-spare parts are sold everywhere
-you can keep up with girls if in good shape
-has a good passability, can keep up with small SUV

Cons:
Fuel consumption - 10-12 liters per 100km in city. Fuel is expensive in Russia.
-You have to repair car 3 times in month.
-Small engines, from 1.2 to 1.6 liters with carburetor. From 59 to 80 HP

Creaking doesn't sound great to me, though I'm sure it's more pleasant during a weekend ride in the countryside than it is driving daily. In some weird, Britaboo way.

Ever experienced the pleasure of accelerating and cornering at speeds that it seems a car shouldn't capable of? I work at a BMW dealer and the F10 M5 is the one car we carry that truly exceeds my expectations, and by far. That said, I prefer a sort of compromise between that and what you enjoy, and have found the most enjoyable car that we've sold so far to be the E36 M3 (even with the cucked US market engine).

Yep. Under-sizing the engine for the actual load might make for better MPG's in a controlled environment but as soon as you fight a little breeze or a hill you lose ALL your advantage.

I tune my shit. I get 20 mpg highway easy any day.

>>696604810
Its a soft but crisp creaking as you bite the corners hard, it feels like you are driving a grandfather clock at astronomical speeds. Thrilling, and bizarre.

The most "Speed where there should not be speed" I ever experienced was in a 1993 Mazda B-2600i truck going 110 on the highway. I... never again. Never ever ever again.

As for acceleration, I was always floored by my buddy's '99 buick century limited. The 3.8 v6 is a really good motor. He did some shit to the injectors and did some shit to the intake, and disabled all sense of a rev limiter and... WAAAAAA. Sure, it wasn't "fast" fast, but it was, well. HOLY.

Dude, always thought about these. Looking for something, preferably RWD, that is cheap, excellent parts availability/cost, easy to work on, and most importantly; has excellent modding potential but that I won't want to kill myself if I decide not to mod it.

Drove an NC a few days ago (first miata I'd ever driven/ridden in). It felt good, the size was right, felt super nimble, but it just didn't make quite enough power for the way it handled. Just an extra 20-30ish or so from the factory would've made it far more enjoyable.

Is an NA that much more enjoyable? I'd probably do matched springs and struts plus intake/exhaust for the sound (I know these, especially intake, don't do much for these motors) and wait to see if I really love it before doing an eBay turbo kit or whatever.

That actually sounds pretty intriguing.

I think you should try riding in some faster cars man! That M5 is fast as fuck, probably faster than my buddy's single turbo FD, but the FD gives a way stronger sensation of speed. Not that that's what it's all about anyway, it's just kinda sad when some normie friend tells you how they were blown away by riding in a stock 4th gen Camaro or whatever.

They're the only diesels that are true diesels. The 12 valve is so simple, all mechanical. Mine is only at 700 torque with 38 pounds of boost. My uncles is 1600 torque, 60+ pounds of boost. Great motors, the rest of the truck will rust and fall apart before the engine.

OEM head gaskets? ARP studs? Short of getting a cometic the stockers are hands down the best headgasket. Last gte I had was oringed as well. Ditch the egr its going to shit all over the place forever, and get a catch can for the blowby at the breather. 3sgte swap is more worth it than tuning a 4A but that engine really lacks the free revving character to match the car. If I was going to go down that route again I'd probably go beams or s2k swap.

Maybe

I'm no speed demon myself. I'm not as depressing as someone I know who owns a porsche 944 and uses it to go get groceries and has never been above 80 mph in it after 5 years of ownership.

>seriously.

Cars that go fast-fast just don't appeal to me in the way that they handle though. They are always too 'heavy handed' feeling, too stiff and too... its hard to describe.

That porsche, nice car. Don't get me wrong. I can see the appeal, much so. It isn't really my thing though. Big and boaty like my wagon, I like it, because its comfortable and relaxing for long spans of time, it makes time just melt right away and trips don't seem so long that way. My Fodge, ehhh... It gets the job done.

the MG? Well, its something else entirely. It handles great, like clinging-to-the-ground for dear life on tires that are not much wider than moun-TAIN-bike tires but it just CLINGS and chucks around corners like "I CAN DO IT!" and it sure can. Does that car go fast? Nah. 75 76 mph is the tip top of the top end.

I guess really fast cars just feel like trucks with tighter steering that are low to the ground to me.

While I like the catch can idea, I can't ditch the EGR. I'm a califag. No glove no love down here I'm afraid. A 3sgte swap would be nice but I can't really afford that right meow. Yeah OEM everything if I can get my hands on it. S2k sounds nice.

Well, to tell you all the truth though, the 48 MG IS a prewar design, essentially. This is essentially fact. MG motors was 20 years behind the times when those things were new, and for that... they did a great job.

But yes. A short rundown of what you get is
>54 HP OHV pushrod engine with flat-tappet cam's in an inline 4 1.25 liter with more stroke than bore!

>four wheel leaf springs

>Lever arm shocks that use 20w fork oil

>Solid bar steering column

>a hand crank for "Lucas electrics took a shit" reasons

>bendix drive electric starter. (most awesomest thing ever.)

>clutch linkage is literally just a piece of fucking chain between the tranny and the pedal. Chain. FFFFUCK YEAH.

Maybe easier to say what you don't get.

>no heater
>no A/C
>no glass except windshield
>no bumpers
>no turn signals
>no seat belts
>no door locks
>no temp gauge
>no lugnuts! (knock offs ftw)
>no tubeless tires.
>No power steering

Decent amount of power from its V6 engine, RWD manual, decent reliability, and good, though not great, off the road
>>
>>696608296

You can't turbo either as a califag but that didn't stop you.(i was a califag too and know this too well) You can plug/remove the egr until you need to go stock for smog and reinstall it in 5 minutes. That way you dont havr to clean it every 2 months with that rich turbo setup. Did you get that gze bar'd already? Using stock gze electronics? Whats this about the AW?

I don't know if I'd describe a 944 as big and boaty, though I suppose it is compared to your MG.

I get what you're saying about handling, I'll always think a car that outhandles its power is more entertaining than the other way around. But I feel a car is most entertaining when it has just enough power (or even a bit more) to get out of hand, but is easy to regulate at that point, regardless of total grip or power.

I've found a 944 2.5 N/A (though I'm sure a turbo S would be even better) and E36 M3 to be right about at that point.

1976 Nova Concours Hatch.

I love it bc it has way more torque than it needs and just roasts the tires. Currently woking on getting a lighter driveline and new shocks and springs.

That whole first list is very NOPE. I'm kinda impressed by that power output though, for what it is.

The second list sounds acceptable and even fun for a fun car, except the seat belts, lug nuts, and tubeless tires.

>>696610129

ooo I was thinking that ae86 was yours.. No you can't really boost the stock motor in the AW as the cast pistons are fragile as fuck. You could swap to a gze long block and boost that. Removing the turbo for smog every two years wouldn't be a super big deal. You're better off doing the 1.5(3sgte) swap which can be bar'd legally in CA as long as everything is legit. You're looking at atleast a 5g investment though which frankly is pissing into the wind with that car.

Sorry my writing got a bit scatterbrained. The porsche is definitely not 'boaty'. That should be on another line.

The porsche is nice, but its just too firm and granite like for me. When you turn the wheel it does stuff, but the wheel is heavy and the response to it is too... predictable and solid feeling.

Big boaty cars on the other hand, are nice for their relaxing properties.

I can totally see why you enjoy driving a 944. It just doesn't 'thrill' the way something a bit more twitchy and light does, but it also doesn't have the comfort and relaxation that going the other direction can offer, and for me that puts it in a sort of odd zone where I find less enjoyment.

But to each their own.

I also have an obsession with owning strange and shitty, often not desirable cars. Eheh.

My autojumble bucket list is...

>Pontiac Fiero
>Datsun Pickup
>Alfasud
>Reliant Robin
>Trabant
>Lada 2107

>wartburg 353 Knight

>Ford Mustang II (I don't give a shit they look awesome.)

Nothing wrong with the way the car is built, I think. Hot rivited frame with the axles ABOVE the frame rails in the rear instead of below, tall stacked leaf springs, beam axle front AND rear makes for...

well, delightfully lightweight and 'snappy' character. The whole suspension is very strangely well designed for its primitive nature. It was not engineered for comfort, and there is none.

HOWEVER, if comfort is thrown out the fucking window for a moment, one must remember that a 1500 lb car that is long, thin, with the center of mass situated BELOW the center of the wheels... well, it just follows that things feel great in their own way.

Just don't expect a spine after a hard ride
