Not to mention the training to remain cool and calm in those situations, regardless of that you will always have that adrenaline inside you flowing around. Shoot till you see them fall and no more otherwise you'll get excessive force on your ass. Stay at a distance and safe if you can if they decide to still try to shoot at you lying down but I'd doubt that after the 4 rounds of 6 you shot are put into them.

you guys haven't really shot in high stress situations, have you? It's not all that hard to remain calm. Granted, it's entirely learned, but you shouldn't be carrying a gun around anyhow if you haven't been training yourself with it regularly.

One thing I will say having read through this fuck-ton of comments.. And because I feel I have my answers..
There isn't much that can effectively be done. As I first stated, without having legal implications, it seems the best option would be-
A. Carried pepper spray for the ability to leave, even if at a slower pace (assuming I'm fat or whatever).
B. Still having a knife, but simply for the intimidation factor.
And yes, I get having a gun, or some crazy glass egg contraption (that suggestion was retarded btw) could be useful, but in all reality, the legal implications would be too much.
But yeah, it doesn't seem like much can be done to protect yourself, other than being smart, staying out of terrible environments and situations, and being able to run fast. Otherwise, you risk a lot legally (assuming you're dealing with cops) by defending yourself.

No. Which is why I don't currently carry. The "shoot/don't shoot" works up to a point but it's a completely different game when you actually have to pull the trigger. Most former Military are trained to shoot first for protection and then ask questions later. The civil rights are structured differently.

I've been in that situation a lot, and it's a split second decision, no doubt, but you have to train yourself on how to react. You have to set up scenarios to recreate that mindset. It's understandable not everyone can do that. But it's definitely worth tracking down ranges that might have simulators.
