To me Ulysses seemed overly pretentious and way too obsessed with the main character. I mean the guy even admits that the character didn't know he was bringing death with him, but he wants him to pay for his "crime" of delivering a package. As for Joshua, he followed Ceasar out of respect for strength and then slowly let power corrupt him, then when he was set on fire and thrown down the canyon, he had the balls to return to his people who had been viciously attacked by the man he was loyal to before and begged for forgiveness. He's going to physically suffer for the rest of his life and instead of hating it or the people who caused it, he accepts it and tries to save people. That's pretty bad ass.
Ulysses is self-centered and feels self important, even when you change his mind he sits around declaring himself a Shephard of the twisted people of the divide
Joshua got over the idea of being self-centered and self-absorbed and chooses to work for others to bring peace and hope to a war torn world. Even when he loses it, the only thing he does is forgo mercy on a crazed, violent murderer.

A guy named Steven Randall has set up shop near Primm and is recruiting bounty hunters, so you start off with basic bounty hunting jobs and start attracting attention from some interesting characters etc, without spoiling it the story gets pretty dark eventually. Make sure you finish 1 & 2 before installing 3 though.
