Righto cunts -

i7 4930K (3.4ghz --> 4.5ghz)
16gb DDR3
256gb Samsung 850 pro
1TB slow shitty Hitachi spinner
GTX 1080 Founders
That's about all the shit that matters...

60+ fps @ 3840x2160 - I'm happy enough with that
>>
>>695689354
How can one be this dumb
>>
>>695689264
mine depends extremely on the speed, after i adjusted it its not audible at all. but with the stock bios settings it sounded like a jet engine under water. and with closed loops like my h100 there is a chance the loop itself has too little watter and it may make noise because there is too much air in the pump, if you're unlucky.

Beg to differ. Windows 8 was not ok, unless you are a tablet user. Win8 was Microsofts attempt to force every user into their app store and dumb down an otherwise professional OS for children who want touch screens and cool colors, not performance. They will still eventually force everyone into an online app store because they have apple envy and know that the real money is in the app sales end.

I saw Ethan Klein at a vape store in New York yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him about Hila or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw Ethan trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen juice bottles in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bottles and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bottle and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yelling "Vape Naysh y'all!"

actually you are asking the wrong guy. I had to go cold turkey on games. Got too addicted and threw them away. Now it is a work station that does a lot of graphics rendering which is very processor intensive and yes it has run over 90 for several hours. i7 can take it ok...so far
>>
>>695694415
I'm no PC expert, but I think you should've spent a tad bit more on the GPU rather than the CPU.

Thanks.

Last question. What's the average lifespan of the 960? I'm no hardcore gamer so I don't plan to upgrade for quite some time. Just need this thing to last a couple years for most graphically mild games. Worst I play on it is GTA 5.

What gpu do you have now?
>>
Desktop, built for work. About 3 years old now:
AMD FX-6100, slight OC to 4GHz
8GB DDR3-1600
AMD FirePro W4100
ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard
2x 1920x1200 HP w2408h monitors
WD Black 2TB HDD
dual boot Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7

Laptop, for games and shit:
Lenovo Y700 14.1" (I like laptops that actually fit in a backpack, fuck off)
i7-6700U
16GB DDR3
AMD R9 380M
512GB SSD
I got this thing for $900, it looks great, and is built like a Lenovo. By far the best laptop I've ever owned.
>>
>>695694783
Generally an i5 is recommended for gaming and for saving money whereas the i7 is for more work related activities such as rendering. It's kind of unnecessary if you only want to play games.
>>
>>695694783
an i7 is an i5 with hyperthreading, meaning you have 4 more """"cores"""" it makes the i7 about 20-25% stronger than an i5 but games dont benefit from it, mainly servers and photoshop and shit like that
>>
>>695694783
i7 does not really introduce many upgrades that will benefit gaming actually, and its quite more expensive than the i7.

>>
>>695695018
That's a fallacious argument.
That said, they are right in this case.
There are reasons to get an i7 for gaming, but in a scenario of i7+960 vs, say, i5+970, it is not the optimal choice.
Unless you play mainly Arma, in which case you might want to get the best CPU you can so it'll run at 33 instead of 25fps in multiplayer.

In my experience, here's the do's and don'ts of parts buying. Anyone feel free to contribute:

Processors:
Are you poor? Get an AMD.
Are you not poor? Get an Intel.

Video Cards:
Are you using the computer for CAD/Photoshop/graphic design shit? Get an AMD FirePro.
Are you using the computer for Games? Get an nVidia.
Do you plan on keeping this computer, mostly unchanged, for at least 4 years, and are willing to sacrifice some performance for longevity? Get an AMD. They aren't great at gaming but they'll survive a fucking apocalypse.

Motherboards:
DO: Asus
DONT: Gigabyte, MSI

Video Cards:
DO: Asus, Gigabyte, Anything direct from AMD or nVidia
DONT: MSI, Sapphire

RAM:
DO: Corsair, Kingston (Crucial is okay if you're on a budget, but don't expect anything of great quality)
DONT: Anything else

Air coolers:
DO: Cooler Master, SilenX, Noctua
DONT: Zalman

Water coolers:
DO: Corsair, anything custom
DONT: Anything else

HDDs:
DO: WD, Anything designed for Servers (Server drives are usually pricey, but are great if you can get a good deal)
DONT: Seagate, Toshiba

SSD:
DO: Corsair, Kingston
DONT: Crucial (unless you're REALLY fucking poor), anything else

PSUs:
DO: Cooler Master, Corsair, Antec, Thermaltake
DONT: Anything else

DONTS for mobos is definitely also Asrocks, had bad experience. Right now I'm using a GigaByte, it's ok.

Video Cards, what about Zotacs?

RAM, I'm using Kingston and some random 2 GB piece of shit.

Water Coolers? DONT for all.

HDDs, Hitachis are shitty build quality. Also, another DONT is for SSHD. Shitty hybrids prone do blow up.

PSUs, that's a funny story. I swapped my 450 W with a 400W and my computer slowly died.

Even if your tech site shows up that your PC's power consumption peak is 400 or 500 or 600 or whatever, always just get 100 or 50 W more. It'll save you a lot. You've no idea what could happen if your PSU blows out.

This may sound like a strawman, but look through any retailer site and check the reviews.
None of those faggots actually know what quiet means. Those god-awful pumps make a racket that you can*t turn off even at idle and usually the included fans perform ok but are loud as hell.
The same goes for video cards, if you really want a silent or very quiet one there is no way around a big-ass heatsing with 120mm fans like the Rajintek things or Arctics triple-slot coolers.
Basically, a lot of people are so used to noisy computer hardware that they have no idea how quiet you can actually make your pc with a bit of effort.
Which is fine, but then don't go and claim your shit is quiet.

But quiet at acceptable temp is equivalent to cool at acceptable noise levels.
What you're doing when you buy shitty AIO coolers is improving temps at the expense of noise, when you could get actually good cooling hardware that improves temps without a noise penalty.
With AIO coolers you pay to move along the temp/noise frontier rather than moving to a better one.

Don't the temperature numbers get darker as the temperatures reach more dangerous heights? It's obviously fake but he didn't even try.

I'm an air cooled guy but I built this stupid pc with a random transmission cooler and windshied washer pump and shit from the autoparts store and threw it all together with a piece of brazed copper plate and ziptied it to a p4 system for a couple months years ago. It's in my junk pile somewhere. It was so fucking loud but cooled so well. The pump was like 40 gallons per hour and my reservoir was a gallon jug of distilled water. Ahh. The ghetto days.

That 3m vinyl stuff would do the job

I'm thinking about buying a mini fridge and clearing all out but cooling unit. I want to use it as a case for my new build. I want optimal cooling for my rig. Is this a good idea or should I use a normal sized refrigerator?

I've never heard good things about ASRock, either, I had a Gigabyte board that lasted 2 months before it fried, and took down my GPU with it. Combined with shitty tech support experiences friends have had with Gigabyte, I don't really trust them.

I've never owned a Zotac, and nobody I know has ever owned one.

Really? I've only ever heard great things about Corsair's coolers. I prefer air cooling just because of those leakage horror stories, but to each his own.

I've been running a Hitachi server drive for years and have never had an issue. If you have access to some old, unused servers, they're often filled with Hitachi drives, so they're really easy to get for little to no cost.

I run my system on a cheap little Cooler Master 500W supply. It's been pushed to its limit for four years, and survived 3 power outages and multiple surges just fine. Would absolutely buy a CM supply again. I agree on the power consumption thing, 600W is almost a prerequisite for any decent system now.

I only made a guess since it's popular for osu players to use graphics tablets because mouse is not enough for moving cursor.
