Delivery driver going to school here. Most of the delivery fee goes to the store owner and the rest goes to me as fuel. Our store has a $3 fee, $1 of which goes to me for gas. On long runs (8+ miles each way) that $1 dollar doesn't cover the amount of gas consumed to drive to your shitshack in the woods, so it's almost as though we're losing money taking your delivery when you stiff us.
Here's a simple breakdown of tips:
$0 - either a mentally handicapped person who doesn't understand the concept of tipping, or a jerk.
$1-$2 - poorfag but thanks for the tip, perhaps Red Baron or Safeway Select is more in your budget though. Pizza delivery is expensive.
$3-$5 - perfectly acceptable and always appreciated.

I'm American, and I agree. I actually paid attention in school and got a good job, so I've never worked in food service, but...I don't irrationally hate people who do. Like someone said above, the stoner stereotype is pretty inaccurate, and the driver/waiter/whatever should be tipped, or else he usually doesn't even make minimum wage. It's dumb, but it's the norm here. I have a hard time believing that tbh. Our drivers are super polite and engage in small talk when its appropriate. It's always about the weather, the weekend, sports teams, shit like that. When I make a delivery I try to make a short connection with our customer. It makes the transaction seem more personal. It doesn't hurt that it helps with tips too.

I don't like the delivery fee going to the owner personally. Besides owning the business, he had nothing to do with taking the order, making the pizza, or delivering it. Drop the fee to whatever goes to the driver ($1 in my case) or pay it as a business expense removing it from the customers obligation.
