At this stage of my life? Definitely. I come from a poor family and I just got away from that and became independent less than two years ago. I'm still getting on my feet.
Costs of living around here are pretty steep, too, that doesn't help.
Basically, getting furniture and clothes and being stable in case something happens to me are my top priority. I'm only just starting to invest in things purely for enrichment now.

My family is lower middle class with only one source of income but my parents wanted me to go on trips in college so I didn't miss out.
I suppose I'm lucky to have never gone through what you are though. I went straight to uni after college, got a student loan, and now my current uni pays for everything. Haven't had to worry about money at all in my adult life thus far. If you can call this adult life.

If I had been there for years and years I could have gotten some or even most of what I have now, but it was happening so slowly that I felt like I was wasting my time, especially because I had personal stuff to deal with that I had to put off until I had more job security that I wasn't being given. I took a big risk by moving, and almost didn't make it, but it worked out in the end.
I certainly didn't mind the work I was doing, but it wasn't worth sitting in with no certainty of what I would be doing in 3 months, or even what kind of hours I would be given next week.

I'm still just a student and have only had 1 summer job I did while in college (not uni). I graduated last year with a masters in biomedical science. My new uni has given me a scholarship that pays for tuition, bench fees, my rent, food, and luxuries while I do my PhD in neuroscience for the next 4 years. So I really have no "adult" worries yet.
