Overrated band, but they are pretty good. Waking the Fallen was their best record though.

>>694002347
Nice choice, anon.
>>694002267
I actually like the more proggy style they adopted in later records, but this is great too.
>>694002326
My least favourite Mastodon, but still acceptable.
>>694000730
Their only good album
>>694002041
Pantera is for the 14 year olds.
And the only reason why people still bring this poopy band up is because of Dimefaggots death.
>>694002347
Cool band, but I can't get over the wacky vocals. Kind of a buzzkill.

I think this was a great comeback album for Mastodon. They really meandered off track after Remission and Leviathan.
>>694003535
>>694003301
I like Dream Theater's "Scenes From A Memory" album, it seems to leave more of an impression.

The album that got me into metal
>>694003630
this. nothing that DT can create will be able to top SFaM
Not bait this time pic related had like 4 good songs rest just sound exactly the same and is boring. Not many people falling for my shitty bait so imma leave. Also tool is fucking stupid and boring to listen to kill yourselves
>>694003597
I dont know, I really think crack the skye is their second best album. The hunter is kinda lame. we dont talk about call of the mastodon
>>694003264
>>694003597
Personally, this was the album that made me lose interest in Mastodon.
Personal opinion:
Crack the Skye > Blood Mountain > Leviathan > Remission > The Hunter > Once More
>>694003372
Was never as big a fan of that album. Selkies is great of course. I like the great misdirect more though just my two cents
>>694003934
Pic didnt post
>>694003865
excellent choice, one of my first albums as well, i think was 8, now 35
>>694003724

>>694003802
I enjoy his solo album and love all the dethklok albums i just hate how good the music production wise sounds on the show than it does compared to how it is on the album
>>694003535
Fuck yeah. Saw them lie a few weeks ago in Cali, best show I've ever been to
>>694003661
Meaning Possessed and Nile sound somewhat generic/bland. I don't really hear anything that gives them a distinctive or signature sound in their music. I would probably not be able to tell which band is playing if I heard them on the radio, despite them being well known and that I have listened to both albums.
GOAT
>>694003652
Sad to see them part ways, but at least every single album they have is a solid 8 or higher. Ashes against the grain is my fave
>>694003951
>>694003936

>>694003724
FETID!
>>694003729
Cheers, I feel like this is the most underrated album ever. Not a big fan of the band in general, but their sound in this album cannot be topped as far as German thrash goes.

Mastodon is what got me into stoner metal. Sleep is made it my favourite genre.
>>694004246
Fucking agree so hard. The opening riff gives me chills every time
>>694004007
Good music, I'm glad that Before the Dawn was avenged.
>>694004085
What? Possessed and Nile sound very distinct from one another. Death just has the advantage of being THE pioneer of death metal, Possessed came close with Seven Churches.
>>694004454
>Everyone else is doing great. Especially this.
thank you dear anon, one of the best albums in existence, have it in vinyl
>>694004540
They know how to put on a show, and they have a great sense of humour too!
>>694003575
Agreed.
This noise polution shouldn't even qualify as music.
>>694004636

Saw them play this in its entirety it was fucking brutal!
>>694004651
No, of course they sound completely different from each other. What I am saying is that they sound generic for their specific sound. How should I put this...? Possessed is alot less memorable than bands like Entombed, and Nile is alot less memorable from bands like early Hypocrisy and Cannibal Corpse.
>>694004662
Me too dude.. Original master is really different to the digital release
>>694003747
Good music
Metal is one step above Country
>>694005011
Less memorable according to who?
>>694004110
Excellent band!
>>694004896
YES! Best band ever
>>694004993
I am jealous. They really started dropping the ball after Demigod imo, but this album was the comeback of all comebacks. I might even say it's their best album, though that is hard to qualify given their genre shift
>>694004651
I can tell Death apart from any other death metal band because of Chuck's guitar playing style and his vocals for example.
>>694004993
Ben sahar is my fav
>>694004636
Classic, truly a step ahead of Metallica's works.
>>694005284
I'm going to see them this fall for the second time with MGLA. So excited
>>694005176
They are definitely a band that has evolved well... I know I'm going to catch shit for saying this, but I think they are the best song writers in death metal.
>>694005101
Mine, I am sharing my opinion and you are asking me to elaborate.
>>694001725
excellent album.
Paradise lost finally returns to its roots.
I think Nick Holmes being the new vocalist for Bloodbath knocked some sense into him.
If you normally don't like black metal, just listen to this. It may change your mind.
>>694001536
God, Magma is such a piece of shit. They need to take a hiatus or something.
>>694002655
i love this album.
its so beautiful... listen to it often.
>>694005011
I 100% agree... I never understood what the big deal with Possessed was.
>>694005087
What then, classical? Jazz?
Could you list your top ten composers?
Could you list your ten favorite jazz saxophonists?
By what standards do you judge what passes for good or bad music? I doubt that they are valid ones
Best tech death album of all times btw
>>694005923
Me too. Found it on the sidebar on Youtube, best accidental discovery ever.
>>694005875
Seriously. That was the weakest shit I have ever heard, almost as bad as Entombed going completely flaccid in their songwriting.
>>694001517
Jaaaamaannnnn
No gwar yet?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6HIifwp4MM
If you guys haven't heard myrkur yet I would highly recommend it... she is a 1 person black metal project with a background in classical music...
>>694006010
They're historically important. They helped bring the rougher vocal style to prominence in extreme metal, inspired Death (I believe there's a quote of Schuldiner saying that Possessed was the reason they started moving away from thrash to the Scream Bloody Gore / early DM style sound, or something to that effect), they possibly coined the term death metal.
>>694005258
My nigguh
>>694006513
Hahahaha
>>694006513
A female doing black metal? God, I hope she doesn't do vocals. Female gutturals is the single most atrocious sound in the world.
>>694003130
I LOVE YOU MANNNNNNN FUUUUUUUCKKK

What the fuck is up with everyone loving the new record?
It's weak, slow, mostly uninispired and boring.
Best doom metal album
>>694006513
Hahaha, u so funny. u maek me lauf
>>694007029
omg yes, and this is their best album too.
excellent taste, anon.
I am not saying that they weren't influential... they were... but the first isn't always the best as a whole... I fell the same about emperor... nightside in the eclipse is a fucking masterpiece... but to me the rest of there stuff was OK. Ihsahn got much better as a solo act because I feel that he evolved. Possessed to me just feels flat from one album to the next...
>>694006623

>>694007019
It is a mystery to me. They delayed it several months "to make it better" as well, I have no idea what they meant by that. I wonder what inspired this sudden change.
I'd recommend Nadja to anyone who has a taste for slow, brooding music. One of the heaviest live performances I've been to.
>>694006930
Heard of, yes. Heard, no. I have heard Arch enemy throughout their albums, and a few others. Overall they always sound to raspy and high pitched, or like they have a terrible throat sore.
>>694006513
She opened for behemoth on the satanism tour... and the crowd lost its shit.... it's mostly clean vocals but she is fucking brutal at times.
>>694000730
Wtf is wrong with you people. My roommate listens to this garbage.
>>694007294
Their mother died during the recording.
But whenever I point out things I don't like about the album it's all "gee their mom died why don't you write an album when yours die as well".
I don't think the loss of a close relative makes you record shit music. I blame everything on Roadrunner and Gojira's America dream.

>>694002041
people shoot down pantera a lot and yeah the fan base is shit and phil anselmos kinda a jackass dimebags a lil overrated their whole gimmick is a little shotty not to mention their almost decade long rut starting with glam
if you want to get into groove metal this is the shit that phil got his sound from and helped pantera form the groove sound they had in the 90s
this is much faster and aggressive its somewhere between pantera and slayer in my taste def my favorite metal band and underrated never see them mentioned in any thread
>>694004896
Like the Somerblain more, but still a good choice!
>>694007019
It's mostly new fans, I'm guessing. People that are just getting into metal. Magma's very watered down and streamlined compared to even the record before that, L'Enfant Sauvage. I'd be fine with the lack of death/prog elements and clean vocals if there were at least some decent riffs, which is pretty much what I listen to Gojira for. There really aren't any. It's not "evolution", it's not a "grower", it's just not a very good album.

Heh. Try giving some classic metal a listen sometime, then ease your way into a subgenre that you like. There are so many subgenres of metal that a fan of any musical genre can become a metal listener.

What is this, 2007?
>>694006513
>>694007518
I was at the NYC show in April...I was far more interested in Myrkur that night than Behemoth. Nothing against Behemoth, I love them - but it was my third time seeing them and so it wasn't as special as seeing a brand new band live that actually took me by surprise. Loved the sound.

The three albums are amazing
Don't really care what you all say, Disturbed is a good band regardless of their edgy as fuck fanbase.
Love the mellowdeath of Insomnium / Omnium Gatherum / Bela'kor
>>694007645
Unfortunate, but like you said it's not a good excuse to turn to shit. They should have taken a page from Death's book and written a song as a subliminal tribute, not change their entire sound all of a sudden.
>>694008299
I think they miss the point of black metal
>>694004896
this is one of the really really big ones IMO
absolute masterpiece
>>694006038
>Best tech death album
That's not Obscura by Gorguts
>>694008321
Nah, their vocals are too rappy. I can't get into it.
>>694007959
If you say so faggot.
>>694008321
if we're disregarding fanbase and also the fact they suck live this band also does too but this is still a good studio album
>>694008381
Into Eternity's "The Incurable Tragedy" is a concept concept album about cancer. There are three interludes simply titled as dates, and those are the three days the guitarist in the band lost his two brothers AND his father to cancer within like a year and a half of each other.
Now that album is how you do a tribute.
Gorgoroth is King.
>>694006038
Sorry bud, this is the best tech death album.
>>694008381
Both brothers have been saying they listen to less and less heavy metal in general in most interviews the past years.
When the masterminds of a heavy metal band stop caring about heavy metal but still churn out recards it's no surprise they release weak ass shit.
Also if you niggers like agressive, progressive thrash metal check out pic related.
>>694008407
what the fuck does that even mean
also... this while I'm at it
>>694008415

this. The Incurable Tragedy is a fucking masterpiece
>>694008743
Them or some fallujah i fucking love listening to

>>694008816
obligatory
>>694007645
I remember Duplantier also saying they were making the songs "less epic" because people apparently have "shorter attention spans".
I mean, what the fuck is that logic? "This style is what made us unique and put our mark on metal, let's ditch it for something everybody's heard before so we can appease people that haven't been buying our records." Fuck off, Joe.
>>694008786
Just checked this out on your recommendation and holy FUCK is this good
More on the hardcore side of things but still great
>>694008664
Into Eternity... Into Eternity... did they make the Crimson albums? If so, I really like their sound and I'll check out that album.
>>694008647
Ensiferum, Iron and Victory Songs are way way better. Everything after From Afar is trash.
https://youtu.be/XgUU1K7lbxg
>>694008321
believe was the only good album
>>694009064
Still, their crown is a heavy one to wear.
They've been the one and only French metal band to tour the whole world and sell a gazillion records in the US for almost ten years now.
I just think they fell for Roadrunner's bullshit.
They still put out killer shows tho, so I don't fret that much over it.
I feel like this is a very underrated album.
>>694009208
Nope, no Crimson albums.
The Scattering of Ashes, Dreaming Dead, The Incurable Tragedy, Dead Or Dreaming are their albums released thus far.
>>694008912
Ex Deo is really underrated
Both releases are great, and they really managed to capture a special sound that fits their lyricals themes.
I was really happy when they announced that they'll do another album.
>>694009465
Their best since Demanufacture.
>>694009465
Fear Factory in general is underrated. Demanufacture was their best though.
This is actually a fucking great album.
>>694009496
Ah, I was thinking of Edge of Sanity. Yeah I'll listen anyways, I'm running out of music.
>>694009505

Everyone loves Demanufacture, but I've got to say that Obsolete is their best album and Mechanize is the second best. You can't gloss over the fact that Obsolete has some of the most distinctive Fear Factory songs (Shock, Edgecrusher, Securitron, Ressurection, the title track). Mechanize I have a soft spot for, because none other than The Atomic Clock was in it, and he very much enhanced Fear Factory's overall sound. I might like the two albums so much because they have the best closers in Fear Factory's discography.
>>694009966
This album is killer but god damn it that cover.
i don't like metal

Blarg.
Here's a metal math problem.
What do you get if you subtract everything interesting from Iron Maiden? Iced Earth
