I moved on from bottles as it's time consuming to clean and fill hundreds of bottles and you have to wait for them to mature 6+ weeks before drinking. With the keg you can drink in a few days.

Don't know what ESB means, but if your beer came out bad the likely causes are the equipment wasnt sterilised properly and you got an infection or the yeast got too hot in the fermentor and released bad flavours.
Also if you bottled it you need to leave it for a long time. if its bad now even after 8 weeks leave it for more months and it might come good.

Straight-up Sam Adams is a fine choice (one of the better "standard" beers). Might not be for everyone. The cherry wheat has a hint of cough syrup-y taste but I like it. Only other "standard" beers I'd go for are Blue Moon and Leinenkugel's. Idk how available Goose Island is nationally but that's up there.
As for ciders (in order)
1. Glider Apple Cider (I want to try the cherry, haven't yet)
2. Woodchuck (red apple)
3. Angry Orchard
4. Smith and Forge because 6% ABV
Then bottom of the list, I'd put Cider Boys and Strongbow. I only had one that was absolute shit, can't think of the name.

I drank those first 3 at work and just got home. I had a cider with a shot of vodka added to it around 6. I had a 16oz for breakfast before work. It's not a quantity thing, more of a frequency thing. I don't get particularly drunk unless I go out afnd take shots.
