>what is the main source of income in your area?
It's really a large mixture, i'm in a suburb of Philadelphia, not far from Trenton NJ, and I know many people that travel to NY to work every day.

>how do people spend their days?
Same, pretty strong mix of people working, retired, deadbeats living off the government or their parents.

>I've always wanted to move to the woods, somewhere quiet - but always thought it would be too boring

The boring part is what would be the hardest part. I've got a friend that grew up living off the grid with his parents and brother and sister. I always thought their place was so awesome because they had a damn mountain in their backyard with all kinds of wildlife, huge pond with fish, trails all over the place. All my buddy and his siblings wanted was for me to tell them about movies and shit on TV. I felt bad for them in that sense, but they were still really happy overall.

Now that I have no clue on. It's probably a lot but they pay out the ass in design and development. So if you wanna count that then probably not as much as you'd think. We have graduates from the top art schools in America doing our design hands on without computers and top chemical engineers working out the formulas and recipes for our countertops. Plus about 30 full time guys and about 20 temps all making bank manufacturing the product. 1 slab costs about $1000 on average.

>buddy and his siblings
>that's as sad as it is scary
It may have been how I worded it, but they have a good life.

>how long is the commute to NY? good public transport? do people drive SUVs or Priuses?
Commute depends, I have a buddy that works in Manhattan that spends about 5 hours a day just traveling to and from work. He's in a strong union so there's always work and he makes a ton of cash when the work picks up. Public transport is ok, but it gets a little sketchy as you get close to and into NY. Then again, that's coming from two people I know that have to get on trains that are known for being shitty. People drive anything, I don't see many prius' at all but I do see them. I drive a Ford Escape, and every morning I see a guy filling up his Bently at the same gas station I go to. I see everything from rusted out beaters, super cars, heavily modded tuners, muscle cars, hot rods, super bikes etc.

Or I can drive north to the mountains in about 1.5 hours, and even further out if I drive longer. >Why does everybody has a knife?
Just for daily cutting tasks.

Is crime rate so high where you guys live that you need some sort of every day protection or what?
No, but the people I know that carry for self defense typically carry a gun, there are gun laws to protect you if you need to use it to protect yourself or someone else, there are no knife laws to protect you if you use it to defend yourself or someone else. I've trained with knives for years, but more for fun than anything else. I would carry a gun if I felt the need or go hand to hand before I went for my knife. Even then i'd use it closed in my fist as a baton before I opened it.

>If I would get caught carying a knife by the police for a random search, would get a big ass fine and probably have to give a statement.
To me, that sucks, can you carry anything for defense? Tazer or pepper spray?
>>

>>692541487
I've got a cryo 2 black washed with a G10 scale. I'm using the brawler because I got it for a great price last year and I wanted to see how well it would hold up. It does just ok, I have to sharpen it more than i'd like to and the handle does get uncomfortable at times if I don't have gloves on. Starting Monday i'm carrying the cryo 2 since it's been a year since I started carrying the brawler, i'm looking forward to carrying a drop point blade again.
>>
>>692543242
Not him. Crit def lab tech here. Can't speak on what his laws say but I will say that tazers and pepper spray, while they would be great alternatives if your govt doesn't trust you with weapons, aren't 100%. About 50% of the population doesn't respond to tazers and it's something like 33% that have no affect other than slight discomfort with OC spray. I've been sprayed. It sucks fat dicks and I'd carry it if I weren't allowed to carry a gun. But I wouldn't be comfortable risking my life on it
>>
>>692543870
what's your take on good old martial arts?
>>
>>692544236
They're great if you keep up your skills. But even that is not gonna be a 100% match for a sudden gun in your face or pointed at you out of arms reach. The risk factor is just too high once the attacker already has his out. I'd rather reach for my wallet like he wants me to do and come out shooting much more accurately than he is capable of. The point of all defense techniques is train train train. If you're confident in whatever you're using then you're usually gonna do better than a junkie on a trip. But don't be stupid and don't fight fair.
>>
>>692542970
>Mind sharing a bit more?
Not at all.

>Like income level and local property prices?
It's pretty scary how different incomes are in my are. In about a 20mi radius you have people living almost completely off of the government, homeless, and working class in the same area can be anywhere from $20,000/yr to $1.2 - 2.2 million/year. Luckily most of the crime stays in the bad areas. I'm right in the middle of it all. I have about 9,000sqft of land my house sits on and so do my neighbors. Very quiet street, only incident since I lived here was an old lady up the street died of natural causes (she was in her 80s).

That's not the point at all. The point is that this person has threatened my life and the odds of him killing me anyway don't justify me letting him have my stuff as opposed to dealing with the situation myself if I can and am comfortable doing so. >>
>>692546038
but why would anyone kill you if you just give them what they want? if someone is pointing a gun at you without the intent to kill you - and just wants your cash and watch - it's up to you whether to give them the reason to shoot. point is that you realistically can either: a) hand over the valuables and keep on living; or b) go for a gun and put your life in danger - and possibly kill the other person - to protect some replaceable items

and if they want to actually kill you, they'll just go for it - and likely with a plan - so you don't have time to respond

Look up stats on how many of those situations end in the victim getting killed anyway just for being there at all. If it's even one person dead for no reason that gave up their stuff then the risk is too much to not at least try and be prepared. Like I said. Dude wants me to go for my wallet? Sure. It's right next to my gun that he obviously doesn't know I have or he wouldn't have picked me. And I don't know if you've watched any videos of CCers drawing? But I use a shot clock to train. I can be out, on target, and first shot center mass from about 10 ft(most defensive uses happen in under 5ft) in under 0.5sec. And that's not the best I've seen. But it'll do. You seem to be opposing under the fallacy that all human life is precious. It isn't.

we clearly have different attitudes, but I appreciate you laying yours out

personally, i think people in the states carry guns because they expect other people to carry guns. short term, people feel protected and safe - which is great, and is protected by your constitution.

my problem is that the government is not willing to change the constitution for fears of not being re-elected. short term results may be horrifying - imagine more incidents and people being generally unsafe - but long term, the results will be positive

The constitution is the only thing keeping us from turning into a state guided by emotion and opinions. Constitutionality is what recently brought about the gay marriage rights and lgbt rights. It may be old. But it's solid. And the 2nd amendment ensures we keep the rest that everyone holds dear.

Are you saying we will not need freedom of speech, freedom from unlawful search and seizure, freedom of he press, freedom of religion, states rights, and freedom to not incriminate ourselves? Because that's what the constitution is about. And that's why the 2A right to bear arms is so important. It defends the rights to all those things lest we become slaves to our govt. the various models in Europe are what we're trying to avoid.

you misunderstood me - i meant that changing the constitution is an onerous task that politicians weigh against their chance of being re-elected

however lack of changes made will make it an outdated document. i'm not saying 'get rid of it' - i'm saying it's important to have an organic document

please don't take me as hostile - i've no idea what it's like to be american and how important the constitution is - and i'm just interested in exchanging views

mainly it actually codifies a set of rights that trump (pardon the pun) all other laws that can be made (that's the way it's supposed to work anyway). we actually have freedom of speech.

at it's most basic level, i can write a bad review of a restaurant that sucks and not worry about the owner suing me for slander. you know, logical shit like that.
>>
>>692553195
Good call. I see what you're getting at. And that's why we have a rotating Supreme Court to establish what is and isn't meant by the constitution. And that's why obamas attempted appointment is being questioned so rigorously. As a gun rights kinda guy I actually like the choice. He seems real centered in his views and fact based. Not liberal. Not conservative. Very objective. But that being said he's "Obamas" choice. If he's the vote that decided gun confiscation is a viable option and constitutional at the same time we could be headed for a very rocky future. The point is that guns aren't the problem. It's the people. And giving the protection of our rights away so that we can feel good while not actually accomplishing anything real is a terrible option

>>692553766
that's fair enough, but your view seems to be very practical - for everyday life situations - whereas i'm thinking from the government level. politicians need to be incentivised to make long-lasting legislation, rather than relying on SCOTUS to try to figure out what was meant ages ago
>>
>>692554498
This. Everything in my stack has a purpose and we pray that we never need the gun. But I'd rather have it and exercise my right to carry and never need it than me or my wife or God forbid my son, the most important human on this earth to me, be hurt or killed because I didn't have it. I started carrying after he was born because god damn there are some fucked up people in this world.

>>
>>692554787
To >>692553812
Same guy. I see the confusion. That's why background checks and training are things most gun owners don't mind. It sets us apart. But to mandate it 100% is discriminating against the single poor mother who can't afford training and buys a $150 HiPoint for home defense or the hunter(who still has to have safety courses) from putting food on his table. We need regulation. But the 2A in and of itself is a declaration that all Americans have the right to defend themselves from whatever threatens our way of life and our lives. Be it a crackhead on the street or a tyrannical govt. and the simple fact that there are approx. 90 million legal gun owners and the police and military have sworn to defend the constitution and not to defend a tyrannical govt keeps ours in check. That's why it's so important because once it's gone the other rights we have and take for granted will be right behind it
>>
>>692535189
thats a weird looking dildo m8
>>
>>692555296
If the state in question allows concealed carry, generally it will be allowed in any metropolitan areas with notable exceptions which one has to keep track of (bars, schools, govt facilities).
>>
>>692555296
Depends on the laws. Most of "us" follow the law to a tee(or "T" I've never seen this phrase typed out) so if the city doesn't permit carry then probably not. You see this in Chicago, Detroit, LA, NYC. And guess what. Hey have the highest violent crime rates in the world. Now in areas where there is high legal gun ownership we see the lowest rates. Take Kennesaw GA for example. Relatively large city. Outskirts of Atlanta. They passed an ordinance(unenforced of course) stating that all homes had to have a gun. Violent crime dropped 80%. That was in the 80s and the rate has held at nationwide lows for approx 30yrs
>>
>>692555642

you see, i don't care what you carry, but you carry edc to be "prepared"

that mindset is dumb, edc isn't about being prepared for something, it's about being the thing your preparing for.

people who strap up there gear and have this paranoid mindset of being "prepared" for the "threat" it's dumb, negative, energy draining, paranoid and you will live your entire life preparing for something that almost certainty won't happen, and you'll sure as shit regret ever happening.

edc isn't about being prepared for danger, it's about being the danger, you don't carry edc because it prepares you, you carry edc because it's the man you want to be.

the only need your meeting is the one inside yourself, not the niggers, or the Muslims, or anything else,

you walk strapped because that's the way you want to walk

that's edc,

Diplomacy is not as necessary when you board up the country and fix what's wrong internally first and get the fuck outta other countries affairs. And as far as hillary is concerned, sure she's diplomatic, but she'll take money from terrorists operating in your country and then bomb the shot outta their country all the while selling state secrets to a whole different country with the next big terrorist organization as their central govt. also she's merkel2.0 so yeah. i could carry a plunger with me everyday and still find a way for me to use is everyday,

you want to carry things that prepares you for the situations that you are most likely to encounter in your broadest environment.

being prepared is a way of life, EDC is a way of life,

>>692558173

you got a big problem if an object makes you feel like a man,

EDC has to be a sustainable lifestyle, and if i were to go into it with the mindset of "preparing for an inevitable threat" then i'm going to be miserable and paranoid,

i have to approach it as,

"the tools i carry are my EDC, and my EDC is an expression of myself, it is an expression of the man i want to be, now what man do i want to be?"

Nope. Our business deals weren't created by the federal govt. Most of them were penned by local county and state govts and businesses individually. Sure the fed is there. But to assume all trade would cease without the fed is simpleminded at best. I'm that lab tech with the Glock. I work for LG. Koreans. Georgia is why they're here. Not USA. Sure they gotta pay to play. But GA has the best tax codes and industry incentives as a republican state to allow the kinda growth they've seen over the last 10 years. Not Obama. Not GW. The State of Georgia. We will be fine as long as we're fixing what's wrong internally and not doing some dumb ass TPP bullshit. That kinda shit ensures we get the short end of the stick. And as far as Muslims go? Countries need to quit harboring terrorists if they want a piece of this action and want their citizens to be able to freely travel here. That shit should be common sense but were too hung up on buzzwords like islamophobia and "current year" memes that we don't know our ass from a hole in the ground anymore.

i wear my seat belt the same reason i carry EDC,

because a man who wears his seatbelt is the man i want to be

you have to internalize EDC, that it is not a reaction to a percieved outside threat AKA

>the niggers
>the jews
>the muslims
>4chan /pol/

you can wear edc because you want to be prepared for a threat you anticipate to meet, you have to wear edc because it is the man you want to be.

the man, you want, to be.

edc has to be an expression of your internal self, not a reaction to a threat.

I've got a few hundred more than you...but glad you like it. I was weary about buying an Argentinian made firearm, but couldn't pass it up. Store was having a huge sale on them so I said fugit. Pleasantly surprised how well it's built and how straight it shoots. I run the Perfecta all brass FMJs through it at the range.

Nah. Just hating on gun prudes. It's always the fanboys. I'm the lg guy with the Glock and I'll be a Glock man till I die. But I always respect a carrier and I know what's quality and what isn't. At least we haven't seen a Taurus millennium yet. Kek

The JR, I think. Works well, no complaints. The cordra nylon holds up well and no noisy Velcro shit.

>>692563418

used to carry M&P shield, bought into sig polymer a year ago and love it. light, DA/SA and no safety, plus it actually fits in my hand. havent sold myself on Glocks (looks not performance). I grew up in the 80's action movie days and need an ominous hammer click to satisfy me.
