This is a different tack: I want to understand what is behind Britain leaving the EU, but I need solid points. From an outside perspective, it's shit, but there was a majority vote. I would appreciate concrete views.

Nope. It's random.
>>691326149
Its just another trade scam..plenty of insiders knew it would be pulling out before most of the general public and they bought and sold their stock accordingly.
>>691326149
I posted this in the other thread. Nice solid tl:dr
Short form: Unlike the rest of the EU, the UK joined after three centuries of unbroken, (comparatively) liberal democracy. As such, asking it to pool it's democratic sovereignty with the continent (the one that had spawned a litany of tyrants that had tried and failed to conquer it) was always going to be a hell of a lot more of an ask than asking nations which had only just (re)gained democracy to do the same.
Add in an apparent democratic deficit in the way the EC works, several decades of campaigning by a bunch of newspaper tycoons who despise the EU for various reasons, a governing party with a butt load of festering wounds from Maastricht, and New Labour's chicanery meaning we never got a vote on the Lisbon treaty and here we are.
Well and truly buggered by 17.4 million morons.
Fuck you.... That's why.
We do what we want, when we want and there's fuck all you can do to stop us!
English are polite people apparently but inside fascist and racist as fuck, so when they had the opportunity they demostrate who they are, they will pay it

pic related my spirit throughout today as a continental european who believe in a paneuropean identity
to answer your question, the reasons are brits were:
- scared shitless of last year's migrant crisis that was actually all but over by now
- hate having to listen to anyone from across the continent even if they get to send their own delegates over
- think they are still a relevant world power despite losing their colonial empires more than half a century ago
- muh union jack, rule britannia, fuck angela merkel
these sentiments led them to leave. what they didnt think through is that scotland might actually hold a 2nd referendum and leave their union for good, and that makes their pretty union jack flag kill

I'm going to have to start bolding this point, SCOTLAND CANNOT HOLD IT'S OWN REFERENDUM. It has to be approved by the British parliament in Westminster, another referendum will not happen under a tory government that's going to swing further right than Cameron was.
I'm starting to think we've made a huge mistake.

52% is hardly a majority, but I guess it is technically true.
Most leave supporters spouted something about regaining national sovereignty, but really it was just the poor white fucktards living in the shitty backwaters of the UK (large swathes of it) scared of immigrants taking their jobs. Interesting that the areas with the larger immigrant populations (who were not entitled to vote) actually chose to remain, while areas where nearly no immigrants live all chose to leave.

Ner, by time they get to vote again the French and the Dutch will have already followed suit.
If we prosper then so will independents.
The Scotts can do as they please, for all I care.
But by then the EU will be a place where your currency goes to die.
Only thing that might sway the votes of the herd is the fact that they already exchanged all their money for EU Monopoly money.
Scotland will realise that their own Monopley money is worthless enough without investing in a pie bald grand national one time win cow called "Angela Merkel".
Lets face it, anybody who chooses to stay in the EU is flogging a dead horse.

> I want to understand what is behind Britain leaving the EU, but I need solid points
1. Being in the EU meant UK had to accept any and all EU migrants.
2. e.g. 1mil+ polish have come since 2005, net migration is something like 200k people a year.
3. Housing is now unattainable and expensive for most in UK especially the capital.
4. Schools places are difficult to secure.
5. The National health service is strained.
6. We're spending too much on benefits and social care.
7. Brits feel disenfranchised and 2nd class i.e. someone could be on the housing list for 15 years then a foreigner with kids arrives and gets a place in 2 weeks.
It's the unfairness that has caused the resentment.
>>691330848
Not to mention that those populations tend to be older. It seems they nostalgia'd for a Britain that will never return. The Empire is long gone I'm afraid, and Britain has even less of a chance of being relevant on the world stage now, unless we suck US dick big time (and we've been doing it for free for years now already).
>>691326149
>EU = titanic

>>691331093
And I'd also add the fact that anyone who complains about these things is branded a racist, which has let to further disillusionment with the way the country is going.

For me, voting to leave was about democracy. The EU is not an actively democratic system. I doubt that even 1% of Brits could name their MEP and even less could tell you what party they represent, what they have voted for or what they have voted against. In other words, the European parliament (which is the only part of the EU with even the thinnest veneer of democracy about it) is democratic in name only. This is often referred to as "democratic deficiency". The real decision makers in the EU are the European Commission, who are political appointees but are not elected. The EU itself has known about but ignored this situation for decades. They have had many opportunities to create a truly democratic institution but have chosen to turn a blind eye. Anyone with an interest in genuine, effective democracy should be cheering today.

People speak of democracy as something which really determines what the people want - but it's nothing but a snapshot. When we have a stalemate voting situation like this, it's fairly clear that the 5% of the population is affected by events like this. Speaking of the people, it's fairly clear that most britons don't know what the EU is, since "What is EU" has been a really popular search word for some time.

>>691326149
While there existed some legitimate concerns regarding sovereignity and EU law I do honestly think it came down to Euroskepticism fueled by the Greek debt crisis and intra-European migration mostly Eastern Europeans. While most of the visible integration issues actually come from non-EU related migrants from the Commonwealth (West Indies, Pakistani Muslims, Hindus) this created an environment that was further fueled by the Syrian refugee crisis and the EU's response, including large concessions to Erdogan's Turkey.
Some very small segment of voters may have been influenced or emboldened by American Trump suporters, Brexit won by 2% so small factors did actually turn out to be significant.
Not making any undue asumptions for the future short term the panorama doesn't look good for either the UK, Europe or the Global economy.
>>691332942
Except isn't that the British people's fault for not caring who they elected to European parliament?
As for the commission, isn't it analogous to the cabinet? We've just traded a bunch of bureaucrats for bunch of morons.
That said, I agree that the EU was in a shit state. However, I believe reforming the EU, rather than dismantling it would be the way to go.
On a side note, do you think that leaving Germany as the sole economic power in the EU means we've forced it's hand, leading to an even more centralised European establishment, perhaps even a German led European state?

To be honest i think it's hilarious all the people screaming "WE'RE GUNNA LEAVE THE UK DEN M8 THIS WAS B8" well off you tot then no one is stopping you but you know what they won't get off their arses, nothing will change.
You know even though we left the EU who's in charge next will most likely sort out the terms of the UK leaving, funny part is even if say all the voters to leave were racist as fuck that doesn't mean we are closing the border if we stay as a single market then people will continue to flood in if that's even the issue.
Most people i know just want to leave the EU because it's a sinking ship and think we can do better alone barely anyone i know has voted out so we can gather immigrants up like it's auschwitz and boot them out, that's not how this works.

>>691333499
Except that they provided the cheap labour that kept prices low. Britons are expecting higher wages without immigrants, which will lead to a wage-price spiral and no observable improvement in lifestyles. Sure, a larger population is certainly a burden on the state, with free healthcare and all. but have you seen how much spending goes towards the state pension? The problem is there are too many old people, and not enough workers contributing to the economy.

majority

noun
1.
the greater number.

Cheap often off the books cash-in-hand labour which does NOT contribute to income tax or in any way shape or form help offset the expense of migrants claiming benefits or the increased NHS spending.
Pensioners may be living longer but they are not having kids and claiming child benefit.

my personal response.
If the Uk votes and leaves, we will invoke article 50 and have a 2 year trade discussion with all other member states of the EU then take a model based on Switzerland Norway or the EEC , all of which pay into the Eu and allow freedom of movement, we Gain the rights to govern our own laws in our kingdom , we do away with EU courts and extradition policy interference, Leaving the EU does not mean we are Free of payments to it, it does not mean we become exempt from international law and on immigration, however we become a more free people to create laws in our lands,
If you voted remain you have gained pretty much nothing but have used the guise of a democratic vote to deny yourself localised governing and democracy,
If you voted leave you put a foot forward towards localised governing and law making outside of Brussels and the unelected bodies which govern many aspects of your living without your governments input.
to allow people we didn't vote for to create laws in our country entirely demeans and debases the point of electing a government in the first place.
People will also call you a racist, thats fine its only natural to fear things that are alien to you and what you dont understand however, even if you did understand it and became familiar with it you would probably find yourself quite disgusted in many cases and appalled at their way of life, it was the same in the 1900's and the 1800's and the 1700's etc etc ad infinum.. our small island has always been invaded and met with outside pressures, much of which we owe our diversification and rich history to.
be very assured however that the situation we face now is not as plain hearted as was then and is very much a matter of civil liberty of the native islander.
setting aside prejudices I feel it is only right that we should leave so that we may potentially take back legal jurisdiction in our own lands and that we may govern and forge a system that makes right by its people above all els

Well as with any major social change. there will be growing pains and things will stabilize. Look ar Germany when the Berlin wall went up. People were clambering to get across. After a few generations pass and the wall came down. It wasn't seen as such a restriction as the current generations adapted to their current living standards and it was a normal way of life. You will see the same thing happened in Russia. Things change but one should not be required to give up their cultural heritage but should learn to assimilate to a new culture that they move too. If they do not wish to assimilate then they need to stay the fuck out.
>>691337013

>>691336817
Actually I would have. If anything is proved by this referendum, it's that the close result was a product of a significant portion of undecided voters, influenced by lies on both side of the argument. It's a failure of democracy that everyone should have a say, even though some are less informed and sometimes not even competent enough to understand the implications of the choice they make. While individuals can be smart, the People are always idiots.

Because they're assholes. Britain came as a beggar to the EU, got their super-duper extra treatment to not have to pay more than 2/3 of contribution, got rich and now they're too selfish to give back what they got from us. Fuck you, UK, I used to love you so much but you're real assholes.

>>691337449
As a remain voter, I was fully aware that the result could go either way. I can't answer for the other supporters of remain, but the leave supporters certainly seemed more convicted in their beliefs, perhaps meaning they were more likely to turn up and vote.
All conjecture of course. We will have to make the best of the decision that was made. Fortunately, the potential downsides of leaving are unlikely to impact me greatly.

>but pensions accounts for half of government spending
Incorrect. Social Protection (welfare including pensions and benefits) amounts to about a third of government spending, See the attached of how it is equally split up.
So no pensions are not the problem, the problem is the increase in overall spending based on numbers of people we are growing by. If you have 300k people coming into the country every year thats not 300k automatically people paying income tax.
This is where labour has failed, people != money.
If you want to put money in the coffers you must control migration and ensure that mostly skilled workers (who you know you can tax) get to come in and contribute.

Why do you care so much?
Why is it so important to you?
I am a French who recently moved to UK. I don't know if UK made the right choice for it´s citizens, but my thought was that for once in the past decades the EU may start reconcider what they are doing and what it´s people want. So far it´s only been doing just like you, blaming its opponent of being xenophobes biggots, never concidering their arguments. When you are such a self entitled asshole entity disregarding your citizens, they wonder why they should respect you in anyway.
Lets just hope that the EU takes this as an opportunity to think about it´s structure and goal. Worst case scenario it stays just as shitty as it is so why do you even care?

>>691326149
Reason for referendum: it was promised during the general election by Cameron to garner votes to a majority government. It worked.
Why it was required: the common perception of immigration has driven the right to gather more popularity. There's legitimately stuff to worry about but it's massively overblown. This has led to an increasing demand for more control over immigration, something perceived by many to be entirely restricted by the EU diminishing the national ability to control access to the UK for migrants.
The result: people who don't know what the EU is, how it works or how its laws are implemented voted a majority because they combined with the people who wanted out for legitimately good reasons, even though those reasons are pretty much none of the ones cited by the Vote Leave campaign. People also looked at the shit Cameron was saying to encourage remain and the whole Remain campaign and though: fuck you, pricks, and spite-voted.

Does there need to be said anything? Most people who voted for Brexit were either old fucks crying in their pub about how they don't understand what globalization means and think good ol' Britain is still somehow a relevant superpower or young folk who bought into racist alternative far right fringe group propaganda.
I predict this:
>Britain will lose a lot of immigrant workers
>also will lose a lot of international students because everybody will be afraid of racist old farts shouting nonsense at them
So essentially old people and retards destroyed the future of the young people in Britain who felt more as europeans than british. And honestly I can't blame them, british culture is so embarassing I always cringe when I see the Queen or her retarded guards and Lord this, Lord that, blablabla. We're not in the 19th century where Britain actually had one of the biggest and best navys.
Also ultranational brits hated that they suddenly were at a round table with the rest of Europe.
>Wut? Us with them at the same table and we don't get to Veto anything? Blimey!
Hope we see war on the streets in the next few weeks.

Love to you guys. Stay strong.
Britania rules the waves!
The BBC, CBS, ABC, Al Jazeera, RT, MSN, Fox News report that 'Britons are Googling what the EU is, the day after they vote to leave it'.
Most of the people who voted 'leave', didn't even know what the EU was.
Anyhow, the British pound sterling is down to a 70-year low, and is still plummeting. Real estate and hard asset values have plunged.
In short, Britons have just committed a massive self ass-fucking. They won't be recovering from this for years - if not decades.
>>691343650
your prediction is as good as your model is.
Honestly I don't have one myself, but what can be said with certainity about it, that the EU Leaders underestimated the consequences of EU politics and its spill over effect on the Brexit vote

No, in 1975 we voted on whether to join what was then nine countries in a common market. This is the first vote on the EU.
>>691344429
A bit over 70% vote participation and the tight voting outcome is fucking depressing. Britons have fucked themselves in the arse and split their country right down the middle, politically speaking.
What a time to be alive.
How sad. Britain's last days, as it were.
Watch it turn into a 3rd world. Its credit rating will plunge. Debt will soar. Unemployment will soar. Heroin abuse will skyrocket. Homelessness will skyrocket. Starvation... will skyrocket.
>>691344210
It's right though. The eu is going to be crappng itself. If we leave, other powerful and economically stable nations (Germany, France etc,) will begin to think the same way. In the end, the eu will consist of Greece and other failing economies all trying to sponge off one another.
>>691344429
The problem is many younger people have more important stuff to do while taking peace and economic stability for granted.
Honestly I myself have periods, when I ban politics from my head just to focus one one thing. If I was living in UK, I think I might be one of these young people who haven't voted, because they took it all for granted
>>691344834
That's retarded.
Now Scotland's leaving with the oil, and the nuclear weapons. Incredible.
The SHAME - utter SHAME the average Briton must feel today.
I can see the reasons Brittfags decided to leave as noted above and plenty of other articles I've read.
Just seems that leaving is like burning your house down because you have a roach infestation.
The economy went to shit immediately, the pound tumbled to 70yr lows, you still have the same migration problems and will continue to have them for years to come, and nuns frankly I don't see Brittain becoming a manufacturing center of the world or have the resources to sustain itself going forward.
I'm afraid that leaving will also prompt Germany and France to leave and then the EU will be no more. But you'll still have mass migration problems but now competing weak currencies and potential for conflict. WW3 appears to be in order.
Thanks for turning Brittain into the Mexico of Europe. Enjoy the deluge of American tourists
Apparently Russia's now threatening Sanctions and Tariffs on the UK.
>>691344723
The vote was too important and required too much knowledge as that it should be given to public evaluation.

I voted out because I wanted to see some shit happen. Nothing really significant has happened in the world for decades.
