There doesn't exist an equivalent for "fakirism" in the western culture. You can't be "self-sufficient" or "detached from the material world" in a social sense. You can practice that behavior, but there isn't a place in society for it, like there is in India, for example (though not trying to parade India here, it's pretty much a shithole).
