That's one way to see it, and I can't say that it's wrong. My opinion, for all that it isn't worth, is that kindness isn't strong or weak, it's how kind you are to yourself versus others that really determines weakness.
If a homeless man asks for a few dollars to buy a burger, is it a kind thing to do to give him some money? Probably. But if I need that cash to eat, then I would argue that I'm not being kind to myself by giving it away. Sure, it might be a little selfish, but self preservation is part of why we're here as a species.
You can be kind and still be strong. Not that I am, I'm a huge pushover. But it's possible.
