You see, we here try really hard to give our players the best experience we possibly can. I am not a developer, but I can say with certainty that everyone here knows that WoD was a massive disappointment to most players. The beginning? Not so much. We try to appeal to every single MILLIONS of players that play our game, and in doing so every little decision we make creates backlash and approval from the community. (Nowadays it's mostly backlash). We really try our hardest to cater to the needs of players but we can't make everyone happy.
Since I'm on /b/ I can disclose this right now; I am not happy with the state of the game either. I think the developers are doing a terrible job and I wish they could put in as much effort into WoW as they did before Cata. I'm pretty sure the worst idea they had was giving flying, making garrisons, and creating only two patches.

Bliz's biggest problem there is that what most seem to want is what was had in the past. Instead of sticking with what was wanted they keep adding things that aren't wanted and "forcing" them down their players throats. If you could bring back the game to BC era or WOTLK at the latest, adding levels and areas to play not unneeded new skills or homogeneous skills across the board, you might make the players a little more happy.

Alright, the subscription number currently for World of Warcraft with every US and EU ect server combined ranges in at 3,970,000 subscribers. We stopped giving out this information a long time ago because the people in the marketing department thought it would be a huge turnoff for players. I have absolutely 0 say in the matter because I'm just a guy who works on the phone helping players with transactions.
