I have used a lot of guns and a .223 will go right through a house.
12ga shotguns have less penetration but they have 2.5X the power so they blast through anyway.
If you need to shoot things inside your bedroom get a 20ga shotgun with light bird shot in it. That will still blow a person to shreds with minimal chance of injuring someone on the on the side of the cheap drywall.
