People can survive and continue fighting after getting shot many times. Bullet's don't magically decrease your health to zero and then you lose, it depends on where you get shot. Shooting a leg, a MOVING leg, is going to be difficult if not impossible under battle stresses, low lighting, no time to react, etc. If they are going to attack you you have to shoot and keep shooting until they stop.
