The thing that gets me is that there are more guns out in the streets than there are people. Banning them doesn't seem like it will fix the problem. I believe everyone has a right to defend themselves and owning a firearm can provide you a very strong sense of safety and comfort.
I am so torn on this subject though. I am a gun owner myself and I would never do anything unless it is to protect myself or my home. Millions of other Americans are the exact same way. However when I don't let my emotions get in the way of me thinking about this subject, I definitely think that something needs to be changed.
I have had a gun pulled on me before and I think that going into a mall and always having a fear in the back of your head that someone will open fire is pretty absurd. In Europe I would walk around with absolutely no fear of being shot. Stabbed maybe, but shot no. 99% of gun owners are good guys, but its that 1% of bad eggs that ruin it for everyone else.
Then you also have to consider that the guns are used to keep the government in fear of its citizens. I am strongly in favor of having a government that is afraid of its citizens, but at what cost.
