hi stoners
this is my piece, it is an absolute work of art. it is a foot and a half tall, extremely thick, made in Oregon; water pipe. with a hole bored in the base for the stem.
it was a gift from a previous lover. I broke it when i set it down on hard concrete (it was in a padded backpack) gently and a large chunk about 1/5th the side of the base sharded off like nothing.
i thought it was unsalvageable until i looked in the backpack and and saw that it was one clean chunk that had come off from the base, while the rest of its beauty was still intact.
i took it to a glassblower and told me that all he could do was put it on a lathe and cut it at the neck and blow me a new base. i asked him if he could perhaps try a more difficult repair and he said why not.
what you see now is a beautifully repaired piece that has been in the kiln twice in its lifetime, and is now a clear window into the base. absolutely beautiful. i obviously take much better care of it now, and have decided to share it with you.
