I started on a 650 dual sport. ~36 horsepower or so; figured that'd be enough to merge onto highways but not so much that I'd get into too much trouble too quickly. Starting to learn to slide it around on dirt and powerslide the knobbies on pavement. Just a little though; I like my bones in one piece and with generally proper alignment.
