We do not want to come forward, because we are terrified of being dismissed. We are terrified that our assaulter will be given nothing more than a slight slap on the wrist — IF that — and even more terrified of the stigma that will follow us around for the remainder of our lives.

He wanted to see if we had our bar tab receipts and wanted us to give statements about being out with him and about how much he had to drink. When I talked to the lawyer he said that if a drunk person commits a crime and can prove their toxicity levels, they can lessen the sentence (in my buddies case, he basically got a slap on the wrist fine) but you can even take the blame completely off of you and onto the bar that served you.
Example:
