But honestly if that happened there would be chaos everywhere. Society would collapse. It wouldn't matter who the military and government were fighting. Depending on how things went there would be at least a few months of lawlessness and chaos.
And that's if the entire military sided with the civilians. Most likely being that it's made up of individuals it would splinter into pro government and pro civilian factions and all hell would break loose.
I own a few guns for the purpose of target shooting, it's fun and it's something to do every weekend. And I'm fairly certain regardless of what these doomsayers claim this "SHTF" crap isn't going to happen. At least not for several generations.

I'm a gun owner, and I keep it next to my bed. I go to the gun range occasionally too. If I get put in the position to fend off someone who has broken into my house I will use it. I don't take selfies with it, I don't show it off to everyone, and I hardly even talk about owning it. It's a nice tool to have, alarm systems are great. I just think that they can do and take what they will and leave within the 5 or 6 minutes it takes for police to arrive. I don't just let things be taken from me. The only legitimate reasons I can give for having guns is the possibility for our government to go tyrannical. I agree anon, but I will be devil's advocate for a moment. Presence is a type of force that can be exerted to prevent crime. Granted, if a would-be armed robber walks into a bank and there is only one armed individual who is open-carrying, the would-be robber would probably target that person first. However, that presents the issue if the robber is willing to be a murderer, a capital offense punishable by death (murder while committing a violent crime). If that individual isn't willing to kill or add on aggravated assault, he would have to face the situation where he would have to disarm or physically incapacitate the person. In the case he is willing to kill that person, that armed citizen isn't useful and would require two or more individuals to pose an exponentially dangerous situation.
There is however, also the who 'exercising a right' thing even though some take it too far, but lots of people take their rights too far.

Disagreed. That presents a huge area of crap people could misinterpret or abuse. While most would probably agree that someone with a drawn weapon during a violent crime like robbery, would be grounds to attack, deadly force must not be excessive, like you wouldn't unload 50 bullets in the guy's face.
