Unless you're killing something with a tough hide or tough armor (bear, SWAT, etc) there really isn't any besides the 'cool' factor of having giant assed bullets. Up to like .45 the ability to know for a fact the person is going down has some benefit, but people are still fragile creatures.
The thing is, it's not a target range or a video game - a robbery is an intense situation, you're not likely going to have the presence of mind to be extremely accurate. Unless you're experienced in actual live combat, you're basically hoping for "the torso" in terms of accuracy in a stressful situation. A 9mm or two to the head or heart is going to put someone out of comission, no question, but a 9 mm to the ribs might not, whereas a few .45 rounds are going to make them seriously reconsider their choices no matter where they get hit.
And of course, the difference in dangerousness between completely fine, MOSTLY dead, and FUCKING dead is not a linear progression.
