Anyways, I think the answer to your question is that fluffies have human levels of sentience and can adequately display the psychological distress that comes with torture. If fluffies were just silent animals people would feel remorse. I think that justified abuse is a crock of shit excuse. I think most people who like/create fluffly abuse are jaded fucks who more often than not identify with the fluffy in their everyday lives and its nice to see the abuse come to someone else.

That's not the source. The incompleteness of fluffies lent itself to minor things like lack of bowel control, not that they somehow managed to produce, along the way to a loving creature, an animal that fucking rapes, murders children and gives demands.
The only reason things like smarties, judgmental mothers and general asshole fluffies exist is because a few years back some dick posted a bunch of over-the-top smarty abuse in /b/ threads back when smarties were just normal herd leaders, and all the new guys joining off those threads got it in their heads that fluffies are a bunch of pricks.
It's not the source material, the source material maintains that fluffies are overwhelmingly loving, innocent creatures and anything to the contrary is a newer headcanon built around awkwardly justifying cruel and unusual punishment instead of enjoying hurting something that doesn't deserve it. It is effectively a second fandom.

For instance if i crate fluffy comics or stories and i like to think that smarty syndrome is a mental disorder that is incurable than in my content it will be precisely that.
But if i think its something that can be trained out of a fluffy, than in my content it can be worked out of them.
There is no single canon but many different ones that many different creators use.
