There was a child with severe autism (as in not the nebulous cases so many seem to have these days, there was something incredibly wrong with him) who would have fits of rage, becoming a danger to himself and the other children. The protocol was to put him in a padded closet and wait for him to calm down, which seems incredibly cruel but that's all they could do for him. It was incredibly difficult to know what would trigger him. I think having to be a part of that so many times caused her to quit.

Its from easy working with people with down syndrome and autism. Downs kids may be a bit easier to work with, but the severe autists is where all hell breaks loose.
When we receive kids with that degree, we have to hire a counselor (camp counselor) to handle the kid since its such a one on one job.
We do our best to split the job and help out as much as possible. But we get a lot of interesting kids at our Y camp.
