Hey /b/ why do you use Gnu/Linux or why you don' t
>>685970517
I’m using Ubuntu Gnu/Linux, because it’s free (both like ‘free’ beer and ‘free’ in freedom). It’s also stable, Unity interface is beautiful and it’s secure I think.

lel no, not out of the box at least

Im a ''free'' software user too but im the only one that is interested in those stuff
Or just use Windows 10, it is more secure, runs better than Linux and also has better privacy options.

i dont like monopolies (like microsoft has or had). i d always prefer the alternative, if it would comply with my needs.
Linux does it for me. In fact it has deeply increased my knowledge about hard- and software. (It also encouraged me to learn the basics about programming.) I like that there is so much to explore (distros/ desktop environments/ software (repos) etc. And i feel like i have full control over my operating system.
Never going back to Windows. Never. ;)

lubuntu 16.04. lts atm. (linux user for 2 years now. sometimes still feel like a newbie)
my first one was Mint (very nice) and i had crunchbang (also debian derived) for a few weeks. But it is a dying distro.
Manjaro with lxde on a secondary machine and
an arch with lxde in an vbirtualbox (not really configuered yet.)
My next pc shall be powered by an arch or arch derived os with lx-qt or another minimalistic DE.
How about you?

possibly the most minimalistic approach to use a mere window manager for the graphical user interaction. (crunchbang utilized openbox's "right mouse button menu" to launch applications, open files etc.. very smooth solution in my opinion.)

Also since you have to be more than able to watch a youtube video to install arch the comunity is very healthy and all the forums can give you solutions very fast. Also I am using a script in my school that establishes more than 1 connection when using a download link (e.g 1000) which lets me use nearly all of the 100Mbit connection of my school. If someone asks me why the wifi is low as fuck, or why they timeout, i just point at my shell and say i need that 70 Mbit bro
I run debian with lxde because my laptop is an old crap. I bought another laptop and overheated due to planned obsolescence, this old computer just works fine. I've been using windows all my life and im happy with linux this year, i have more freedom because its free software, its fast and get the shit done.
The only thing that i dont like is that it doesnt tell you when your hard disk is almost full. when its full you cant startx, just delete files with command line.
And logs keep getting bigger, i don't know how to remove them automatically and im too lazy to make an script or something.

Every night my Linux powered machine sucks and slurps at the end of my penis until I fall asleep. I have never heard of a Windows or Mac computer that can do this, so until it is developed, I will continue to use Linux like the wanton slut she is. I mean literally she will do anything you ask and will let you do whatever you want. There is nothing she's not up for.
I use Linux (mostly debian) on servers, raspis and vms (to dev). I'm mainly on osX (best os for me, even tho you have to pay the price ..) and win10 for personnal use.

In my country that's how it goes. You learn all the "basic " subject (phisics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, english and math)
Lennart Poettering is the cancer that's destroying GNU+Linux
>>685993256
>>685993934
Alright, even if it's not, the point stands.
I urge folks to try out a unix system or unix derivative (however far removed). Linux, BSD, OpenSolaris, whatever.
>>685994300
That was shit joke. Why did i lose so hard?
>>685991139
so you download something like windows that is not better than windows because its windows??? what the fuck?!

On second thought, free as in beer, not as in software.

Im a developer so it's not really the platform that matters (except for servers ^^). It's just about comfort :p OSx is perfect for dev, very stable, very good ui and build over unix kernel. Now I only use windows to play games (or dev 3D stuff because I have a good GPU on my pc :p)
>>685993968
So ppl here are usually
14-15 when they finnish elementary
18-19 High

Serbia
Running it exclusively since 2011. Because freedom (and honestly, *nix is so much more a pleasant environment compared to DOS if you're even slightly technical as a person.)
using win 7 since it came out
give me one reason worth switching to anything else
>>685994915
Cool nice anon
>>685995061
don't if you won't, stay on windows
just a reminder fedora is shit but still better than debian. arch and gentoo are stupid. windows is the devil and osx is for plebs. bsd is the matirx.
>>685970517
Using Arch Linux, why? Because why the fuck not and I'm not going to use the botnet called Windows
I use Gaboonga v4.5
Get on my level spergs
>>685970517
yea I use gnu/Linux (ubuntu, used to use arch in college but then I graduated and dick waving about how bare-bones your system was wasn't important anymore)
>good games finally with valve pushing steamOS
>little-to-no botnet
>freedom and free price
>99% of pajeets don't write viruses targeting me
>all parts of my system are swappable
>dev tools are always free
>infinitely configurable without having to fight your system to do it.
>>685995002
Anyway, kali and backtrack are pretty useless. it's just ubuntu with a few pre installed packages .. Most people don't even know what it's used for (or how to use it). In the same category i prefer backbox which has a script that route all traffic thro TOR (that can be useful :p), but again you can install only what you need on a light debian. Also I hate KDE..
I'm 21, I remember it as backtrack, and never really used it (except for aicrack ^^')

Freedom. More seriously though, in a couple of years it'll lose its support. As Microsoft moves to a subscription model along with all the ad and (more blatant than before) spying stuff, people will be slowly moving away from it. Desktop Linux on the other hand has, in the past couple of years, taken huge leaps forward and keeps on gaining support from big companies (like Valve.) I think we've reached the point in time where the only problem I can see with Linux is that people aren't as used to it as they are to Windows as it doesn't come pre-installed. All that's needed is the critical mass, which is slowly accumulating.
>>685994728
so? neither is breathing. in physics nothing is free. you spent more time configuring a broken system then using your default os for it's intended purposes. you can keep trying but honestly it is boring so bye.
>>685995598
As i said earlyer, I'm allready used to it as it is and just kept on using it.
Aircrack... It's good you can do it without wordlist :-D
>>685995550
Nice, try to dev a .NET app :)
(Don't talk about mono pls :x)
>>685995407
you are using bazinga?
>>685993911
Well you scored the 911 there, so I have to be honest. The greatest thing about this Linux babe is that you really can't insult her. There ought to have been warnings in the Bible about her. She'll do it all and then some. Plus she loves to dress up. You'll see her trying on all kinds of different looks. Some are awesome and hot, some are just messed up. Every now and then you might even get to see her completely naked. She never nags or complains, and when she goes down she doesn't flash a big blue card in your face. She's also really faithful. Once you've formed an attachment to her, she won't let anyone else in ever unless you specifically permit it. She doesn't try to pry into your business, and she'll do her best to keep your secrets hidden. It's also cool how she never gets jealous. You can come home absolutely reeking of Windows and she won't say an unkind word. Livin' the dream, man, livin' the dream.
