I got my lower wisdom teeth pulled out one week ago today. I pretty much immediately started drinking beers after and within in a day or two smoked cigarettes. This week I think I have a minor case of dry socket. I saw also getting food in there and started irrigating with a plastic syringe. Finally I decided to remedy it by packing the sockets with orajel. I don't care about the numbing so much because just covering over the holes is enough to alleviate the pain.
Is this good enough and safe to get me through until they heal up some more or do I really need to go back to the dentist?

I'm not OP but here's the deal with wisdom teeth. If you didnt grow them out until age 21 they will most probably not grow however there is a risk that they will couse trouble in the jaw because they are not out. Trouble in the jaw as meaning pushing other teeth from the inside, damaging jaw integrity etc. I wouldnt recommend surgery to pull them out unless they are cousing you trouble and pain.

Mouthwash is fine, but just don't use mouthwash with alcohol - it can dry out your mouth, which leads to decay. Also, don't brush too soon after consuming anything acidic. Make sure you don't brush or floss too hard - proper form is the key to avoiding damage to your gums, but also avoiding decay near the gumline.

Not op, but I'm a dentist. Brush after every meal at least 2 min. Brush at the gum line, at a 45 degree angle to the long axis of the tooth. Floss after every brushing. If you pull some debris out floss the area again until the floss comes out clean. Use a fluoride mouth rinse and swish for 1 minute, spit out and don't rinse, don't eat or drink for at least 30 mins. Avoid soda, sweet tea, or over sweetened coffee.

Also see the weird black almost transparant nature of the top of bottom teeth, that only happened after a dentist app, dunno what happened. Don't blame dentist at all, but do know that's when I noticed it.
