And to answer your question, I don't take my phone with me, if I absolutely don't have to and the watch has lots of feature that my phone doesn't have. It has a better compass and GPS, altimeter, barometer, pedometer, thermometer, simple heart rate monitor, etc. and most importantly the battery lasts for days or even weeks. It's really useful in everyday life, in the woods and in military exercises. It's also made in my home country, which is a nice bonus.

So there's some room for improvement. Basically it would only need a firmware update to add a skydiving mode, where the sampling frequency would be set higher. That's not going to happen for existing units though, because there is no port on the device. I think you should send feedback to Suunto. I did and a real person responded that the feedback had been forwarded to R&D, so at least that's better than nothing.

Yes of course it's got some flaws. I too prefer column wheel chronographs because they're much more work safe. And yes of course it's used I some rather expensive watches. But again mechanical Chronograph watches are very expensive nowadays. Especially Swiss made.

Yes the Chronograph seconds hand can suffer from light jerking. I've experienced this too. It's not something that is really a problem if you're timing something but it's really annoying and concerning if you look closely. Amazingly enough this can actually also happen to some Omega Speedmasters with the caliber 321 movement.

Well for £100 I would look into Orient or Seiko. You won't really find any mechanical Swiss made watches for those kind of money. But of course if you're fine with quartz there are of course Swiss quartz watches. Tissot for example would be nice to look into.
